At least 1 person killed and multiple injured after an implosion at a paper and packaging plant in Washington state

(CNN) — At least one person is dead and multiple people were injured after an implosion involving hazardous materials in a large vat of chemical treatment product at a paper and packaging facility in Washington state, fire officials said.

The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. local time at the Nippon Dynawave Packaging Co. facility, the Longview Fire Department said.

The implosion took place following the rupture of a tank containing white liquor, the agency said.

Multiple people suffered chemical burns and other injuries, according to the fire department. There is no immediate threat to the public, the department said.
