EE.UU. describe a Cuba como una “amenaza” mientras presiona a La Habana por reformas

El Gobierno de Estados Unidos publicó este lunes un extenso informe en el que describe a Cuba como una “amenaza” para su seguridad nacional, mientras la Casa Blanca presiona a La Habana para que emprenda reformas políticas y económicas en la isla.

En el documento de 100 páginas, titulado “Cuba. La capital del comunismo en el siglo XXI”, se hace un repaso de la historia cubana desde la revolución liderada por Fidel Castro en 1959.

El departamento dirigido por el secretario de Estado de EE.UU., Marco Rubio, de origen cubano, acusa a La Habana de querer “socavar, degradar y desestabilizar a Estados Unidos” con espías y soldados, pero también con estudiantes, intelectuales y ONGs.

Sostiene que durante 67 años, el régimen cubano “ha entrenado a terroristas, dado refugio a fugitivos, se ha infiltrado en el Gobierno de Estados Unidos”, una campaña que “ha logrado un éxito que sus fundadores difícilmente habrían imaginado”.

También denuncia que la isla alberga “un número creciente de instalaciones militares, de inteligencia y terroristas extranjeras”, lo que supone “una amenaza singular para la seguridad nacional de Estados Unidos”.

La Habana ha negado reiteradamente la acusación de Estados Unidos de que Cuba alberga en su territorio instalaciones de rivales de Washington como China o Rusia.

El informe del Departamento de Estado se publicó después de que la semana pasada Marco Rubio encabezara en Washington una cumbre ministerial destinada a contrarrestar lo que él describe como un auge del terrorismo de extrema izquierda en el mundo, impulsado en parte por La Habana.

Desde la captura de Nicolás Maduro por fuerzas estadounidenses en Venezuela, el Gobierno del presidente Donald Trump ha impuesto un bloqueo energético a Cuba que ha agravado la crisis económica de la isla y presiona para que el país emprenda reformas políticas y económicas, al tiempo que amenaza con una posible invasión.

La Habana sostiene que solo los cubanos pueden decidir su futuro y denuncia que Washington prepara una campaña para justificar una agresión militar.

Heat alerts return Wednesday through Thursday for the coast, beyond the weekend into Monday for inland areas with 90 and 100 degree temperatures expected.

Tropical Storm Elida will move past our area by Wednesday, Fausto behind it looks to move pretty far west away from California.

Strong high pressure, weak onshore winds, warm ocean water and increased humidity will keep us hot through the extended forecast.
