(KEYT) – This year's Family Kite Festival in Santa Maria has been canceled due to the expectation of incoming rainstorms. The event organizers were worried the conditions of Rotary Centennial Park's field where the event was scheduled to take place would compromise safety, accessibility, and the overall experience they shared in a press release Friday. "This decision was made with the community at the forefront," explained Jacquilyn Banta, COO of Children's Resource and Referral, the event's primary organizer. "While we are disappointed, our responsibility is to ensure that every event we host is safe, welcoming, and aligned with the high standards our families deserve." The full cancelation of this year's event allowed organizers to focus on planning next year's kite festival. Santa Barbara's Kite Festival was delayed for a week for the same weather-related reasons.
