(KEYT) A popular former mayor of Port Hueneme has died. Anthony "Tony" Volante celebrated his 90th birthday last year. He died in April, shortly after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Volante is being remembered for fighting to save Naval Base Ventura County during a string of base closures in the 1990s. He will also be remembered for helping the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme. The Knights of Columbus honored Volante has his rosary in Oxnard.
