(CNN) — Alarm and outrage reverberated around the internet Saturday as people across the country tried to process shocking news: Megan Thee Stallion and Klay Thompson were over. And not just over; Megan posted a message on Instagram about the sharpshooting NBA star that opened with the word “Cheating.”

The widely beloved rapper, born Megan Pete, went on to write that Thompson, the four-time NBA champion now playing for the Dallas Mavericks, “got ‘cold feet.’

“Holding you down through all your HORRIBLE mood swings and treatment towards me during your basketball season now you don’t know if you can be ‘monogamous’????” Megan wrote. “I need a REAL break after this one .. bye yall.”

Thompson has not publicly commented and he did not respond to CNN’s requests for comment. In a statement to CNN, Megan confirmed that she “made the decision to end my relationship” with Thompson.

“Trust, fidelity and respect are non-negotiable for me in a relationship, and when those values are compromised, there’s no real path forward,” she said. “I’m taking this time to prioritize myself and move ahead with peace and clarity.”

When Thompson and Megan first announced their relationship last July, many fans were thrilled.

Throughout her time in the public eye, Megan had gone through serious hardship. Early in her career, her mother and grandmother both died in the same month. In 2020, her fellow musician Tory Lanez shot her multiple times in the feet, which led to Lanez’s conviction two years later for assault, and ignited criticism along the way about the ways Black women’s safety is often disregarded. There were also legal battles with her old record label, and another relationship with the rapper Pardison Fontaine, who Megan also accused of infidelity. (Pardison Fontaine later admitted to hiding text messages but claimed he never physically cheated.)

All of this adversity led to her 2023 song “Cobra,” which begins with: “Every night I cried, I almost died / And nobody close tried to stop it.”

From the public’s perspective, Thompson was seemingly an answer to her troubles. Megan posted videos of the two working out together, eating catfish and spaghetti, and going fishing — sweet moments that won the hearts of fans. “I’m so happy for her!” one user wrote on Reddit at the time. “She’s going to get treated like she deserves!”

The announcement of the breakup ruined those hopes and reactivated a fanbase sworn to defend Megan. Within an hour, posts on X, Instagram and TikTok defending her and threatening Thompson were everywhere, brimming with the type of vitriol reserved for betrayals of close friends. People made compilations of Thompson’s worst moments on the basketball court, tried to curse his knee, and flooded his Instagram with threats.

Sin ningún temor a la equivocación, se puede afirmar que esta serie tendrá goles, y probablemente muchos. Después de todo, están cara a cara los dos equipos que más tantos anotaron en la presente edición del torneo: 38 para cada lado, aunque, es cierto, los parisinos jugaron dos partidos más (los playoffs para clasificar a octavos de final).

El sospechoso acusado en el tiroteo de la Cena de Corresponsales de la Casa Blanca compartió publicaciones en las que comparaba al presidente Donald Trump con Adolf Hitler y animaba a otras personas críticas de su presidencia a comprar armas, según una revisión de CNN de dos cuentas de redes sociales que parecen pertenecerle.

Las cuentas vinculadas a Cole Tomas Allen, de 31 años, quien compareció este lunes ante el tribunal acusado de intentar asesinar a Trump, cambiaron en los últimos años de publicaciones sobre videojuegos a mensajes políticos más agresivos.

Las publicaciones también se hacen eco de argumentos en un mensaje que Allen supuestamente envió a familiares antes del ataque, en el que expuso un plan para atacar a funcionarios del Gobierno de Trump y expresó enojo por sus acciones.

Los investigadores creen que las publicaciones, así como la información extraída de múltiples dispositivos electrónicos incautados en los últimos días, muestran la animadversión de Allen hacia Trump y su administración, dijeron a CNN fuentes familiarizadas con la investigación.

Un alto funcionario del Departamento de Justicia confirmó a CNN que Allen usó el identificador de cuenta de X “CForce3000”. La cuenta ha sido retirada, pero CNN revisó más de 4.000 publicaciones que están guardadas en Wayback Machine del Internet Archive.

CNN también revisó más de 700 publicaciones archivadas de la cuenta @coldforce.bsky.social, ahora fuera de línea, en la red social Bluesky. (CNN) — New Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro, who succeeded Bob Iger just six weeks ago, is facing his first big Trump test.

President Donald Trump is publicly pressuring Disney to fire Jimmy Kimmel over a joke by the ABC late-night host last week.

There is no indication that Disney is thinking about doing so. But the pressure – which is also coming from First Lady Melania Trump and a host of Trump allies – has created a headache for D’Amaro, who previously ran Disney’s theme parks and now oversees networks like ABC as well.

A spokesperson for D’Amaro did not respond to a request for comment. Representatives for ABC and Kimmel have also remained tight-lipped since the controversy erupted.

Kimmel’s producers were busy preparing Monday afternoon for the night’s new episode, which is set to air at 11:35 pm on ABC stations.

Last week Kimmel promoted Oz Pearlman, who was meant to be the entertainer at Saturday’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, as his special guest on Monday night.

But Pearlman did not get to perform for the president and the assembled crowd after a gunman opened fire outside the dinner ballroom.

Pearlman subsequently pulled out from the Kimmel appearance; he will be replaced by Jon Lovett, the liberal comedian and podcaster who used to be a speechwriter for President Barack Obama.

Lovett has appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” multiple times in the past.

The other Monday night guest who was promoted last week, actor Anthony Anderson, is still set to appear on the show.

Behind the scenes, ABC executives and Kimmel are likely discussing what he might say on Monday night’s show about the controversy.

Kimmel quipped on last Thursday’s episode that the First Lady had “a glow like an expectant widow.”

The joke – seemingly about the president’s age – was one in a long list of poison-tipped punchlines at Trump’s expense. Kimmel pretended to perform a roast of the president, since the correspondents’ dinner was set to feature Pearlman, a mentalist, instead of a comedian.

The “expectant widow” line was recontextualized after Saturday night’s shooting. The alleged gunman was charged Monday with attempting to assassinate Trump.

Pro-Trump media outlets and influencers blasted Kimmel online, foreshadowing a concerted effort from the Trump administration to push him out.

The first lady condemned Kimmel on Monday morning, and the president followed up a few hours later, calling Kimmel’s on-air comment a “despicable call to violence” and linking it directly to the shooting incident.

For Disney, this all feels a bit like a rerun.

Last September, amid an earlier Trump administration pressure campaign against Kimmel, ABC suspended the show “indefinitely,” only to bring it back less than a week later.

The network managed to anger both Trump opponents for benching Kimmel and appearing to capitulate to the president and Trump fans by allowing Kimmel back on the air.

That time around, when Iger was still CEO, ABC felt it had to move quickly after two big owners of ABC-affiliated stations, Nexstar and Sinclair, said they would preempt Kimmel’s show in their respective markets.

Iger’s deputy Dana Walden, who has a close relationship with Kimmel, later said the suspension was an effort to “take the temperature down” after Kimmel angered conservatives with a comment about the alleged killer of Charlie Kirk.

“We wanted to resolve the situation in a certain way to protect our employees, to think about our audience,” she told Bloomberg.

Walden is now D’Amaro’s No. 2 as the president and chief creative officer of Disney.
