Keeping an eye on wind, Monday March 2nd forecast

Kraig Pakulski 0 25 Article rating: No rating
Partly Sunny Palm Trees

As expected, the onshore flow strengthened just enough to deliver some noticeable cooling for all areas. Despite the cooler ocean influence, the region enjoyed mostly sunny skies with just some passing high clouds and temperatures still running above normal. For the overnight and in to early Monday, look for patchy fog to develop with the possibility for reduced visibilities. Overnight lows will be in the 50's and 40's with light winds and again, chances for patchy fog. Light northerly wind may keep just enough compressional warming all night for the South Coast. That means lows could remain in the 60's.

Looking ahead, temperatures should cool to near normal by Monday and a couple of low pressure systems will need to be watched for next week. The first will dive at us from the north with a very slight chance for sprinkles in our eastern areas for Monday. Another inside slider type of storm will also run at us by the middle of the week. Our forecast models are struggling with its exact trajectory which means for now, we will keep things dry and focus on wind potential for Wednesday and Thursday. As is often the case with dry systems that drop down from the north, winds could get pretty strong. We will monitor things closely and update what to expect wind wise or if another chance for sprinkles comes in to play from Wednesday to about Saturday.

Kraig Pakulski 0 20 Article rating: No rating

A man fatally stabbed a woman and a dog, injured 3 others on the Beltway near DC before a trooper killed the suspect

(CNN) — A man stabbed four people, one fatally, before he was shot and killed by a Virginia State Police trooper on the Interstate 495 Beltway near Washington, DC, Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

A dog was also stabbed to death during the incident, Virginia State Police said in a news release.

The incident was described as road rage and is not believed to be terrorism-related, officials said.

The suspect, described only as a male, confronted the responding state trooper with a knife and was shot in self-defense, police said.

The victim who died was described as a 39-year-old woman.

Several lanes of the interstate were closed as police investigated.

A man was driving with his wife when traffic slowed significantly and he saw two cars “kind of banged up,” he told CNN. He then spotted two people covered in blood.

He thought their injuries were from an accident until he saw a man with a knife, he said.

A woman appeared to be trying to stop the assailant, but the man kept swinging his knife, the witness said.

“I just kept driving with the traffic,” he said. “And I don’t know if I should have stopped or not, but it was really, it was really scary.”

A second witness described a woman covered in blood trying to defend herself from a man.

Another witness, on his way home from a weekend with family, saw a scuffle he now believes was a stabbing. He then saw a state trooper pull up and fire at least two to three shots at the man.

The most striking looks from the Actor Awards red carpet

(CNN) — The Screen Actors Guild Awards are back, complete with a new name — and, for the first time ever, a thematic dress code.

Now known as the Actor Awards, the annual ceremony’s 32nd edition sent attendees very specific sartorial instructions: “Reimagining Hollywood Glamour From the ’20s and ‘30s.”

Expect lots of flapper dresses, wavy hairdos and classic silhouettes as the stars of film and TV arrive at the Shrine Auditorium in LA on Sunday evening.

If celebrities stick to the brief, that is.

With the Golden Globes and BAFTAs behind us, this is the last major movie awards show before the Oscars, offering guests (and their stylists) a final chance to experiment ahead of the Academy’s more strictly formal red carpet.

And quite what organizers’ (somewhat unusual) decision to include a themed dress code means for the various fashion trends we’ve seen this season — from sheer fabrics and loose-fitting tuxedos to gimmicky “method dressing” — remains to be seen.

See below for red carpet highlights. This story will be updated throughout the evening.
