CARPINTERIA, Calif. - (KEYT) Santa Barbara County deputies are searching for armed burglary suspects in the 4500 block of Foothill Road in Carpinteria.

The deputies are investigating a burglary at a cannabis grow at the location.

The suspects are believed to be armed and outstanding in the area.

A shelter in place public safety alert has now been lifted for the area between Santa Monica Road and Linden, North of the 101 and South of Foothill Road in Carpinteria.

There were also multiple traffic accidents related to the burglary at Foothill at Santa Monica and Foothill at the Cravens.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff deputies are searching for armed burglary suspects in the 4500 block of Foothill Road in Carpinteria. A burglary was reported at a cannabis farm at the location early Wednesday Morning.

The suspects are believed to be armed and outstanding in the area.

There were also multiple traffic accidents related to the burglary, including a flipped car on Santa Monica Road.

La presidenta encargada de Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, mostró un tono conciliador hacia Estados Unidos en un discurso el martes al cumplirse un mes del operativo militar en Venezuela en el que fue capturado el presidente Nicolás Maduro, quien permanece detenido en Nueva York.

“Podemos construir una agenda de trabajo desde nuestras diferencias”, dijo la líder chavista en una transmisión del canal estatal VTV. “Las controversias, las divergencias con el Gobierno de los EE.UU. deben hacerse de manera diplomática, por el diálogo político”, insistió.

Rodríguez le bajó de esta forma el tono a sus declaraciones de fines de enero, en las que había dicho “basta a las órdenes de Washington” y rechazado la idea de que Caracas esté subordinada a la Casa Blanca. Analistas consultados por CNN indicaron que ese fue un mensaje dirigido a las filas chavistas, ya que la coordinación con el Gobierno de Donald Trump avanza con fluidez. Por su parte, el mandatario estadounidense dijo no haber oído esas declaraciones y aseguró que ambos tienen una “muy buena relación”.

Rodríguez resaltó este martes que Venezuela se ha mantenido en paz desde el ataque del 3 de enero. “En estos 30 días hemos dicho que Venezuela ha transmutado y ha madurado lo que ha sido el impacto de una agresión por parte de los Estados Unidos. Lo ha transmutado en tranquilidad, en cuidar más que nunca la paz”, dijo en su alocución, un día después de reunirse por primera vez con la nueva encargada de negocios de EE.UU., Laura Dogu, en el Palacio de Miraflores.

La mandataria también dijo que en los últimos días conversó con el presidente Trump y con el secretario de Estado, Marco Rubio. “Ese debe ser el camino, el respeto a la legalidad internacional, el respeto interpersonal”, señaló.

La cúpula chavista mantiene el equilibrio entre una presión continua de Washington, que incluye exigencias de apertura en el sector petrolero, así como reclamos sobre los presos políticos, mientras trata de apaciguar a los sectores de las bases militantes que rechazan un relación estrecha con la Casa Blanca.

Por su parte, Maduro cumplió un mes detenido en una cárcel de Estados Unidos, acusado de cuatro cargos federales, entre ellos narcoterrorismo. El derrocado líder se declaró inocente de todas las acusaciones y tendrá una nueva audiencia judicial a finales de marzo.

El chavismo insiste en que la prioridad sigue siendo el reclamo por el retorno de Maduro y su esposa. “Hemos estado enfocados, como dijo nuestra hermana Delcy, en la tarea fundamental que es el regreso de nuestro presidente al país y de la compañera Cilia Flores”, dijo el martes el ministro del Interior y Justicia, Diosdado Cabello, quien agregó que los otros objetivos son la paz del país y la estabilidad económica.

(CNN) — The Washington Post is expected to announce mass layoffs Wednesday morning, dealing a significant blow to a storied media company and a newsroom that has reached a breaking point.

Executive Editor Matt Murray and human resources chief Wayne Connell sent an email to staffers Wednesday morning instructing employees to “stay home today” but attend an 8:30 a.m. ET meeting via Zoom during which the Washington Post’s leadership will announce “significant actions across the company.”

Widespread layoffs at the Post have been expected for several weeks, especially after leadership told staff in an internal memo that they no longer planned to send any reporters to the Winter Olympics this month — a decision that was ultimately reversed.

The Post’s publisher, Will Lewis, has spoken privately about focusing the Post’s investment on politics and a few other key areas, while cutting back in areas like sports and foreign affairs.

That prompted teams of reporters to send owner Jeff Bezos letters that urged him not to shrink the newsroom.

In one letter obtained by CNN, signed by bureau chief Matt Viser and seven other White House reporters, the staff said it will be unable to maintain its history of excellence in reporting if the Post lays off significant numbers from other news units.

“If the plan, to the extent there is one, is to reorient around politics we wanted to emphasize how much we rely on collaboration with foreign, sports, local — the entire paper, really. And if other sections are diminished, we all are,” Viser and the other signees said.

A year ago, Bezos outlined a new vision for the Post’s once-esteemed opinion section, promoting libertarian ideals, including free markets and personal liberties. That decision led opinion editor David Shipley to exit the company.

Bezos’ change came months after he canceled a planned editorial page endorsement of Kamala Harris in late 2024. That decision led to mass cancellations from subscribers, hurting the Post’s bottom line.

(CNN) — The most recent evidence in the desperate search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of “Today” host Savannah Guthrie, is also its most disturbing: purported ransom notes sent to media outlets.

Investigators have not yet confirmed whether the two similar notes are legitimate, but the sheriff of Arizona’s Pima County said Tuesday he was “absolutely not” dismissing them.

“When the note comes to us, it’s like any piece of evidence,” Sheriff Chris Nanos told CBS News. “You give it to us. You give us a lead. We’re going to look at every aspect of that lead and work it as a lead.”

Here’s the latest into the investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie – who authorities believe was taken against her will from her Tucson-area home over the weekend – and the continuing search.

Media outlets receive alleged ransom notes

At least three different media outlets – TMZ and CNN Tucson affiliates KOLD and KGUN – report they received ransom notes earlier this week demanding millions of dollars in bitcoin for Nancy Guthrie’s safe return.

Those outlets say the notes also described specific evidence in Guthrie’s home, where authorities say she lived alone and was last seen Saturday night. Nanos has declined to confirm whether those claims match the crime scene, but told CBS News investigators did share the note with Savannah Guthrie.

In response to a request for comment, the sheriff’s department referred CNN to a statement posted on X Tuesday.

“We are aware of reports circulating about possible ransom note(s) regarding the investigation into Nancy Guthrie,” the agency said. “We are taking all tips and leads very seriously. Anything that comes in, goes directly to our detectives who are coordinating with the FBI.”

Investigators process evidence taken from Guthrie’s home

While the sheriff’s department has given few details about the investigation, more information is coming out about what was found at Nancy Guthrie’s one-story home, located in a secluded neighborhood framed by the famous saguaro cactus native to the Sonoran Desert that blankets Tucson.

Authorities found blood inside Guthrie’s home, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday, citing law enforcement sources not authorized to discuss the case publicly. The report did not detail whose blood was found or where in the house it was found.

There were signs of forced entry at the home, according to a person familiar with the investigation who spoke to The Associated Press.
