(CNN) — A flamboyance of flamingos dazzling against a backdrop of power lines, a crafty crab hitching a ride on a jellyfish and a young sloth safe in his mother’s embrace are among the shortlisted images for the Wildlife Photographer of the Year People’s Choice Award 2026.

London’s Natural History Museum teamed up with an international judging panel of photography, wildlife, conservation and science experts to select 24 images from a total 60,636 entries submitted from 113 countries.

The overall winner will be chosen by a public vote, the organizers said in a statement Wednesday.

“Whether showcasing fascinating behaviour or platforming a powerful story, this year’s selection of images is truly exceptional,” Douglas Gurr, the director of the Natural History Museum, said.

As well as cheeky possums and young kestrels readying to make their first flight, this year’s gallery also includes images that ask bigger questions about the human impact on the planet.

One photographer visited Uganda and captured the striking image of a mountain of snares, used to trap wildlife and confiscated by the nation’s rangers.

In another photograph, a pangolin orphaned by poachers is comforted with a blanket at a rescue center in South Africa.

Voting is now open online and at the Natural History Museum. The winner and four runners up will be announced on March 25.

Continuing a game day tradition, Trump agrees to Super Bowl Sunday interview with NBC

(CNN) — President Donald Trump isn’t attending the Super Bowl this year – but he will still be a part of the football festivities on NBC.

The network announced Tuesday that Trump will tape a sit-down with “NBC Nightly News” anchor Tom Llamas. The interview will air in several parts beginning Wednesday night, and a separate segment will be televised on Sunday’s Super Bowl LX pre-game show.

It is a notable booking for a couple reasons. First, Trump has attacked NBC News too many times to count and has nicknamed its parent company Comcast as “Concast.” Second, the last time NBC televised the Super Bowl when Trump was president, in 2018, he passed on a chance to appear on the pre-game show.

But this time around, Trump evidently wants the air time and attention.

The pre-game telecast is a chance for Trump to reach beyond his regular audience. Even the afternoon hours of Super Bowl coverage, long before the kickoff, draw significant viewership every year.

The idea of a presidential Super Bowl interview originated with George W. Bush. Barack Obama picked it up in 2009 and sat down for an interview with the host network every year.

In the Trump years, things got more complicated. Veteran journalists typically conduct the interviews for other networks, so Fox was criticized for having Trump’s Fox News friends Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity lead the sit-downs in 2017 and 2020, respectively.

President Joe Biden continued the tradition in 2021 with CBS and in 2022 with NBC, but he passed up the interview opportunity in 2023 and 2024, which led conservative critics to accuse the White House of hiding the president from public scrutiny.

Trump, true to form, knocked Biden for skipping the Super Bowl Sunday platform.

“They ask a question, and you give them an answer,” Trump said in the run-up to last year’s telecast. “It’s not that hard.”

Trump taped an interview with Fox News anchor Bret Baier for last year’s broadcast on Fox, and he attended the game in person in New Orleans, becoming the first sitting president to do so.

This year, the game is being played in Santa Clara, California; Trump told the New York Post that “it’s just too far away.”

Stephen Miran resigns from the White House, keeping his seat at the Fed

Washington (CNN) — Stephen Miran, one of President Donald Trump’s top economists, on Tuesday resigned from his leadership role at the White House’s Council of Economic Advisers as his term as a Federal Reserve Governor continues, according to a letter obtained by CNN.

His departure was first reported by Barron’s.

Miran was confirmed by the Senate to serve at the Fed while keeping his role at the White House through an unpaid leave, an unusual arrangement.

In his letter dated Tuesday, Miran wrote that he had promised senators he would leave the White House should he remain at the Fed past January.

As a member of the CEA, “his brilliant insights and powerful advocacy on behalf of the President made him an enormous asset for the White House, and he established himself as a key member of the Trump administration’s economic team,” White House spokesperson Kush Desai said in a statement.

Technically, Miran’s term expired on January 31, as he was serving out the remaining months for a governor who resigned last year.

But Miran’s continued service in that spot marks an opportunity for Trump. The president has nominated Kevin Warsh to become the new Fed chair once Jerome Powell’s term leading the central bank expires in May.

Because of Fed rules, though, only a sitting Fed governor can assume that post as chair – and there are no open governor spots. (Powell’s concurrent term as a Fed governor will last until 2028.)

Instead, Trump can swap in Warsh for Miran closer to Powell’s exit, then elevate Warsh from there.

It’s a complicated series of maneuvers that underscores how Trump has placed the Fed – and its interest-rate policies – under intense scrutiny as the president pushes for lower rates.

This is a developing story and will be updated.

(CNN) — More than 48 hours after Nancy Guthrie was reported missing from her Arizona home, investigators still are looking for her and asking the public for leads, officials said Tuesday in a news conference about the missing 84-year-old mother of “Today” anchor Savannah Guthrie.

“Every lead and tip is important. We are aggressively pursuing and looking into every single one again,” Jon Edwards, assistant special agent in charge of FBI’s Tucson office, told reporters. “Please help us bring Nancy Guthrie home.”

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos did not indicate there were any new leads that would point to a suspect in Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.

“We do believe that Nancy was taken from her home against her will, and that’s where we’re at,” Nanos said Tuesday.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen Saturday night at her home in the Catalina Foothills near Tucson, and police say time is of the essence to find her, especially since she is without crucial daily medication. After her family reported her missing Sunday, law enforcement found a “very concerning” scene at her house that spurred a criminal investigation, Nanos said earlier this week.

Savannah Guthrie, who traveled to Tucson after learning her mother was missing, is now asking for prayers for her family.

Here’s what we know:

Sheriff on Tuesday: Nothing yet to indicate a suspect

Nanos on Tuesday largely declined to share specific details about investigators’ findings and at times candidly admitted to not having answers.

When asked about if one or more than one person could have been involved, the sheriff answered: “No clue.”

“We have all kinds of investigative leads we’re working on,” Nanos said when asked if anyone who may have taken her had made demands or asked for ransom.

“We are sharing all of our leads with the FBI they are helping us in in evaluating those leads.”

Sheriff’s officials are “aware” of reports involving possible ransom notes in connection with the disappearance, the agency said in a later update Tuesday.

“We are taking all tips and leads very seriously,” the sheriff’s department said in a post on X. “Anything that comes in, goes directly to our detectives who are coordinating with the FBI.”

TMZ reported it received what appears to be a ransom note, which the company says it has shared with authorities.

The note has not been verified, and at least one other newsroom — a TV station in Tucson — said they had also received what appears to be a ransom note.

The sheriff’s department did not provide additional details about the alleged ransom notes.

Samples of DNA from Guthrie’s home have been submitted to labs for testing,
