Alguaciles federales de EE.UU. arrestaron este sábado en Miami a los influencers de redes sociales Andrew y Tristan Tate por una solicitud de extradición del Reino Unido tras una investigación sobre delitos sexuales denunciados por siete víctimas, según el Servicio de Fiscalía de la Corona del Reino Unido.

Andrew Tate, un influencer con miles de millones de vistas en internet, enfrenta 42 cargos, entre ellos violación, trata de personas, posesión de imágenes indecentes de una menor y agresión, según el Servicio de Fiscalía de la Corona del Reino Unido y la Policía de Bedfordshire. Tristan Tate enfrenta 17 cargos, entre ellos agresión sexual, violación y trata de personas, dijeron las autoridades.

“Miembros de nuestra unidad de delitos graves han estado trabajando estrechamente junto al Servicio de Fiscalía de la Corona y con organismos policiales nacionales e internacionales como parte de esta compleja investigación”, dijo la subdirectora de la Policía de Bedfordshire, Karena Thomas.

“No hay lugar para la violencia masculina contra mujeres y niñas, y seguiremos trabajando incansablemente para apoyar a las víctimas e investigar todas las denuncias que se nos presenten”.

Los hermanos comparecerán ante un tribunal federal en Miami la próxima semana, dijo una fuente de las fuerzas del orden.

El Departamento de Justicia confirmó que los alguaciles federales de EE.UU. arrestaron a Andrew y Tristan Tate “en el marco de procedimientos de extradición”, y añadió que los arrestos “se realizaron de conformidad con los tratados y acuerdos de cooperación policial que rigen las extradiciones del Departamento de Justicia”.

Un abogado de los hermanos dijo que son inocentes y criticó la decisión del Reino Unido de solicitar la extradición.

“Existe un acuerdo de larga data entre los gobiernos del Reino Unido y Rumania según el cual el Reino Unido no solicitaría la extradición mientras los procedimientos rumanos estén pendientes”, dijo Joseph McBride. “Esos procedimientos están en curso ahora mismo. Ese acuerdo existe porque ninguna nación puede pisotear la soberanía judicial de otra por conveniencia política”.

Andrew Tate, un autoproclamado misógino, es conocido por sus diatribas sobre la dominación masculina, la sumisión femenina y la riqueza. En un momento dado, fue suspendido de todas las principales plataformas de redes sociales.

Los hermanos, que tienen doble ciudadanía estadounidense y británica, enfrentan decenas de nuevos cargos añadidos a cargos anteriores presentados por el Servicio de Fiscalía de la Corona después de que la Policía de Bedfordshire presentara pruebas relacionadas con acusaciones que se remontan a 2012, dijeron las autoridades.

Las autoridades habían investigado denuncias en las zonas del este de Inglaterra de Bedfordshire y Hertfordshire, dijo la policía.

Los fiscales rumanos habían acusado previamente a los hermanos de traficar mujeres a través de Rumania, el Reino Unido y EE.UU. y de explotarlas sexualmente.

(CNN) — New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said his office is still looking into arresting Benjamin Netanyahu if the Israeli prime minister visits the city for the United Nations General Assembly in September.

Speaking on The New York Times’ “The Interview” podcast, Mamdani said his administration’s legal department is actively discussing the potential arrest of Netanyahu, something he vowed on the campaign trail to pursue.

“I believe that Prime Minister Netanyahu belongs in The Hague,” Mamdani said. “He’s a war criminal who has been charged by the International Criminal Court. And what you will find is that is an opinion that is held by many purely because of what his actions have wrought over these last many years.”

Asked what he believed the law allowed him to do, Mamdani responded: “That’s an active conversation with our legal department. However, what we’ve seen at the national level is a desire sometimes to write your own laws, to go outside of the bounds of legality. That’s not something we have an interest in.”

The ICC issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu and other Israeli leaders in 2024, accusing them of war crimes during and after the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks on Israel. President Donald Trump and former President Joe Biden have denounced the ICC warrant.

The US has not ratified the Rome Statute, which obliges countries to arrest people who have ICC warrants against them. The Trump administration has escalated its long-running battle against the ICC, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently promising to “dismantle” the court and accusing it of “waging a war against our country, not with bullets or missiles” but with “the force of so-called international law.”

Mamdani is a fierce critic of the Israeli government and has repeatedly criticized Israel’s war in Gaza as a “genocide.” Israel denies those claims.

US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz on Saturday called the mayor’s comments “pure political theater” and noted the US is not a member of the ICC.

Speaking to WABC radio host Sid Rosenberg earlier in the week, Netanyahu dismissed concerns about Mamdani’s calls for his arrest.

Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, said on social media Saturday that Netanyahu “will come to New York, address the United Nations General Assembly with pride, and stand before the world to state Israel’s truth and its unwavering right to defend its citizens.”
