Below is a press release from the City of Santa Maria regarding modifications made to Santa Maria Regional Transit to meet growing community needs.

SANTA MARIA, Calif. (KEYT) – Starting Wednesday, July 1ˢᵗ, Santa Maria Regional Transit (SMRT) will implemen targeted service updates across its transit network. These route adaptations come in direct response to shifting neighborhood developments, changing passenger travel patterns, and overall ridership tracking roughly 10 percent higher than the previous year. SMRT will execute the following system improvements to enhance overall routing efficiency and expand localized community access:

  • Launch of Route 14: This new service will operate on a 60-minute frequency along West Main Street and Blosser Road. The addition expands transit connectivity to the Neighborhood Walmart and the Community Health Centers (CHC) medical facility. Passengers may also request service to the Santa Maria Airport on this route.

  • Realignment of Route 4: Operating on a 60-minute frequency, Route 4 will adjust its terminus destination directly to the Crossroads Shopping Center. This modification gives transit riders more direct and efficient access to retail, dining, and commercial destinations along Betteravia Road.

  • Enhancements to Route 5: Schedules will adjust to a more accurate 60-minute frequency. The line will integrate two brand-new bus stops positioned to directly serve residents at the Santa Maria Studios senior living community.

By continuously aligning bus schedules with municipal expansion and real-time transit data, SMRT provides a more reliable, safe, and intelligent transit infrastructure for current and future riders. These upcoming changes are all available on the rideSMRT.org website and the Summer Edition Riders Guide. Questions may be directed to the Department of Public Works at (805) 925-0951 extension 2480.
