OXNARD, Calif. (KEYT) – An 18-year-old Ventura man and two 17-year-old Oxnard residents were arrested last week in connection with an armed robbery at a convenience store on Oxnard Boulevard back in April of this year.

On April 24, around 4:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the AMPM convenience store at 1132 S. Oxnard Boulevard for a reported armed robbery stated a press release Monday from the Oxnard Police Department.

Investigators learned that three males had entered the store, picked up some items, and attempted to leave without paying detailed the local police department.

A store employee confronted the trio before the suspects went behind the counter and demanded money shared the Oxnard Police Department.

One of the suspects had a handgun and used it to threaten the employee and all three left the store with merchandise and an undisclosed amount of money noted the Oxnard Police Department.

No one was injured during the armed robbery added the Oxnard Police Department.

Investigators with the Violent Crimes Unit took over the investigation and were able to identify the suspects at an 18-year-old Ventura man and two 17-year-olds from Oxnard before obtaining search warrants for the homes of all three suspects explained the Oxnard Police Department.

On May 27, a search warrant was executed at a home in the 2100 block of Isabella Street in Oxnard and one of the 17-year-old suspects was arrested at the scene for second-degree robbery.

Two days later, on May 29, members of the Violent Crimes Unit served search warrants at homes in the 1100 block of Johnson Drive in Ventura and in the 1300 block of East Channel Islands Boulevard in Oxnard and the 18-year-old was arrested at the Ventura home for second-degree robbery.

The other juvenile suspect was already in custody at the Ventura County Juvenile Justice Center and he was arrested at the youth detention facility on a charge of second-degree robbery noted the Oxnard Police Department.

Despite the arrests, the investigation into the April armed robbery remains open and anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Randall Gonzales at 805-288-3289 or via email at [email protected].

En la teoría, el mercado laboral de Estados Unidos parece estar en una buena situación.

La tasa de desempleo del 4,3 % se sitúa por debajo tanto del promedio de los últimos 10 años (que fue del 4,6 %) como del de los últimos 50 años (6,1 %). Por segundo mes consecutivo, el recuento oficial del Gobierno sobre la creación de empleo superó con creces las expectativas de los economistas. Además, la encuesta más reciente sobre ofertas de empleo y rotación laboral mostró un fuerte aumento en la contratación durante marzo.

Entonces, ¿por qué últimamente tanta gente tiene dificultades para encontrar trabajo?

Muchos de los desafíos que enfrentan quienes buscan empleo hoy en día derivan de la disminución de las ofertas laborales durante años, lo que ha intensificado la competencia por los puestos disponibles. En respuesta, más personas optaron por estudios de posgrado con la esperanza de obtener una ventaja competitiva. Sin emabrgo, para muchos, esto no ha funcionado. Al mismo tiempo, los importantes recortes de personal en sectores como el Gobierno federal han añadido aún más candidatos a un mercado laboral ya saturado.

“Cuando analizamos esa cifra de nóminas […] simplemente no refleja la experiencia de la mayoría de las personas en el mercado laboral actual”, dijo Kory Kantenga, jefe de economía de LinkedIn, en referencia al informe de empleo de abril, que indicaba que los empleadores agregaron 115.000 nuevos puestos de trabajo ese mes.

En abril, la mitad de los nuevos puestos de trabajo creados procedían del sector sanitario, mientras que la otra mitad procedía del comercio minorista, el transporte y el almacenamiento.

Sin embargo, “la mayoría de la gente no busca trabajo como mensajero”, declaró Kantenga a CNN. E incluso si así fuera, afirmó que no es razonable esperar que el ritmo de creación de empleo en los sectores minorista, de transporte y de almacenamiento se mantenga a largo plazo, ya que muchos puestos en esos campos son más vulnerables a la automatización.

La selección de Ecuador quiere realizar su mejor Copa del Mundo en 2026 y, con este objetivo en mente, el entrenador Sebastián Beccacece presentó su lista de 26 jugadores que estarán en Norteamérica.

Por supuesto, Moisés Caicedo, Willian Pacho y Piero Hincapié resaltan como las figuras estelares del plantel, pero la Tri cuenta también con una base sólida de otros futbolistas que se desempeñan en el fútbol del viejo continente.

En total, 24 de los 26 jugadores se desempeñan profesionalmente fuera de la liga ecuatoriana. La liga brasileña es la que más le aporta a Ecuador con un total de cinco futbolistas, seguida por la de Bélgica, con cuatro.

La Premier League de Inglaterra además aporta tres jugadores a Ecuador, entre ellos Caicedo e Hincapié.

El promedio de edad de la Tri es de 25,4 años. Páez es el más joven del equipo, con 18 años, y el arquero Galíndez el más veterano, con 39. Pero cabe destacar que solo tres jugadores en el plantel tienen 30 o más años. Síntoma de una selección que todavía tiene mucho por dar.

Ecuador clasificó al Mundial como segunda de la eliminatoria sudamericana con 29 puntos, tras empezar la campaña con castigo de -3 puntos. La Tri logró este desempeño principalmente gracias a su buena estructura defensiva.

La gran incógnita para Ecuador recae en su zona ofensiva. Enner Valencia quedó como el goleador del combinado nacional en las eliminatorias y en Norteamérica 2026 igualará el registro de Edison Méndez como el ecuatoriano con más Mundiales disputados, con tres.

La experiencia de Valencia todavía aporta y mucho a la Tri, sin embargo, tomando en cuenta la edad de Valencia, Beccacece convocó a tres delanteros más: Rodríguez, Arévalo y Jordy Caicedo.

Este último fue titular justamente en el último amistoso de Ecuador, en donde realizó un rol más físico de arrastre de marcas y presión alta.

Durante los últimos tres amistosos de Ecuador, el equipo mostró una postura distinta a la que mostró en las últimas cuatro fechas de las eliminatorias.

Ante Marruecos, Países Bajos y Arabia Saudita, Ecuador dejó a un lado su postura reactiva a las propuestas del rival y optó por buscar el protagonismo con la presión alta y transiciones rápidas.

Con estos cambios tácticos en mente, la Tri podría aprovechar la capacidad física de su plantel para incomodar al rival, principalmente en la fase de inicio de las jugadas, con el objetivo de controlar los ritmos del encuentro.

Ecuador solo ha superado la fase de grupos de la Copa del Mundo en una ocasión, en Alemania 2006. Veinte años más tarde tiene una gran oportunidad de volver a lograrlo, tomando en cuenta el nuevo formato, en donde incluso clasifican ocho terceros.

(CNN) — Florida is suing OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman, alleging they know ChatGPT is not safe, especially for minors.

The state becomes the first to sue OpenAI over the alleged dangers of its product.

“Sam Altman and ChatGPT have chosen the AI race over the safety and security of our kids. They have chosen profit over public safety, and we’re not going to stand for it here in Florida,” Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier said at a press conference on Monday.

The lawsuit, filed on Monday in Florida’s tenth circuit, accuses OpenAI of deceptive and unfair trade practices, negligence and violating product liability laws. It also seeks to hold Altman “personally liable for the harm he has caused Floridians,” including his alleged “utter disregard for the risk to human life caused by his firms’ conduct.”

The lawsuit lists a litany of accusations against ChatGPT, including helping mass shooters, encouraging suicide, causing “public humiliation,” getting minors addicted to a tool with “no parental oversight” and causing users to lose “critical thinking skills.”

OpenAI did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Uthemier said they ultimately need OpenAI to “change their programming” and that they could be liable for “potentially billions of dollars.”

The lawsuit specifically focuses on accusations that OpenAI lacks effective parental controls for young users, noting the free version of ChatGPT has “no gatekeeping or age verification mechanism” and that OpenAI does not require children’s accounts to be linked to a parent’s account.

The lawsuit also says that even if accounts are linked, OpenAI will only notify parents of concerning content in “limited situations” and “in no event can a parent request access to what information a child has provided ChatGPT.”

The civil lawsuit builds on the first ever criminal investigation into OpenAI which Uthmeier launched in April, over whether the company “bears criminal responsibility” for a mass shooting at Florida State University last year.

The accused shooter in that case had extensive conversations with ChatGPT in the leadup to the shooting, including on specifics about mass shootings at the university and advice on how to use the weapons, Florida authorities allege.

OpenAI said at the time that the shooting “was a tragedy, but ChatGPT is not responsible for this terrible crime.”

“In this case, ChatGPT provided factual responses to questions with information that could be found broadly across public sources on the internet, and it did not encourage or promote illegal or harmful activity,” an OpenAI spokesperson said in April.

Uthmeier said he expects other states to join his effort.

Several states have taken action against other AI companies. In May, Pennsylvania sued Character.AI, accusing its chatbot of posing as doctors (Character.AI said they’ve taken “robust steps” to make it clear their AI bots are not real.)
