CORVALLIS, Oregon. (KEYT) - Easton Talt hit a walk-off RBI single to cap off a two-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning as #7 Oregon State edged Cal Poly 3-2 to complete a 3-game sweep.

The slumping Mustangs held leads in all three games but fall to 18-16 on the year. Cal Poly has dropped 9 of their last 13 games.

Cal Poly got a solo home run in the fifth inning by Dylan Kordic to tie the game at 1 and then went in front on another solo home run by Nate Castellon in the sixth inning.

The Mustangs outhit Oregon State for the second straight game 11-6 but could not break through in the win column.

UC SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) - Kellan Montgomery pitched eight strong innings and Nico Libed delivered the big hit as UCSB edged UC San Diego 3-1 to pull within a game of the Tritons and Cal Poly in the Big West standings.

The Dos Pueblos High School alum Montgomery allowed just one run and four hits while striking out 9 as he improved to 6-2 on the year.

(Montgomery retired the final 13 batters he faced in the win. Entenza Design).

The Gauchos were trailing 1-0 but in the bottom the seventh inning Nico Libed came off the bench and delivered a two-out, 2-run pinch-hit double down the left field line to put the Gauchos in the lead for good.

From head coach Andrew Checketts: "Yeah, he looked bad on the first breaking ball, swung through it, then did a really good job of laying off some pitches and got a mistake and made the guy pay when he made the mistake. Nico, he's a really good .200 hitter. He's better than that, he puts together competitive at-bats, we felt like at that time he gave us a really good shot. We needed a hit, he pulled the gear off in the bullpen, ran down there and did his thing, so it was pretty cool."

Liam Barrett smashed a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Gauchos an insurance run.

"(Barrett) has been a breath of fresh air for us ever since we inserted him in there since he came back from injury," said Checketts. "Some other guys went down, he's done a really good job of taking quality at-bat after quality at-bat after quality at-bat and that was another example of that."

Van Froling struck out the side in the ninth inning for his second save on the year.

UCSB is now 22-11 on the season and 10-5 in the Big West as they try to chase down the Tritons and the Cal Poly Mustangs who are tied for first at 11-4 in league. The Gauchos own both tie breakers now if it comes down to that at the end of the year.

(CNN) — US President Donald Trump strongly criticized Pope Leo XIV on Truth Social on Sunday evening, claiming he is “weak on crime” and “terrible for foreign policy.”

Pope Leo XIV, the first American pope, has become increasingly vocal about the US and Israel’s war with Iran, last week condemning Trump’s rhetoric and threats against the people of Iran as “truly unacceptable.”

On Sunday evening, Trump posted a lengthy critique of the pope on Truth Social.

“Pope Leo is WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy,” Trump wrote.

“I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s okay for Iran to have a nuclear weapon. I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s terrible that America attacked Venezuela, a country that was sending massive amounts of drugs into the United States and, even worse, emptying their prisons, including murderers, drug dealers, and killers, into our country.”

“And I don’t want a Pope who criticizes the President of the United States.”

EE.UU. atacó dos presuntas embarcaciones de narcotráfico en el Pacífico oriental el sábado, matando a cinco personas, según el Comando Sur de EE.UU.

“El 11 de abril, por instrucción del comandante de #SOUTHCOM, el general Francis L.
Donovan, la Fuerza de Tarea Conjunta Southern Spear llevó a cabo dos ataques cinéticos letales contra dos embarcaciones operadas por Organizaciones Terroristas Designadas”, escribió SOUTHCOM el domingo en una publicación en redes sociales en X”.

Las fuerzas armadas de EE.UU. han matado al menos a 168 personas en ataques que han destruido 50 embarcaciones como parte de una campaña que Washington dice que busca frenar el flujo de drogas hacia Estados Unidos, según anuncios oficiales y el análisis de CNN de las labores de búsqueda y rescate.

Ha habido al menos 15 sobrevivientes de esos ataques, al menos dos de los cuales fueron detenidos brevemente por la Marina de EE.UU. antes de ser devueltos a sus países de origen. Se presume que unas 11 personas murieron después de que las búsquedas no las localizaran en el agua.

El representante Eric Swalwell informó el domingo que se retiraría de la contienda por la gobernación de California tras acusaciones de conducta sexual inapropiada que llevaron a un colapso casi inmediato de la campaña, mientras miembros del equipo renunciaban y destacados simpatizantes demócratas le instaban a desistir de la contienda.

“Suspenderé mi campaña para gobernador”, publicó en X. “A mi familia, personal, amigos y simpatizantes, lamento profundamente los errores de juicio que he cometido en mi pasado. Lucharé contra las graves y falsas acusaciones que se han hecho, pero esa es mi lucha, no la de una campaña”.

Swalwell había sido considerado durante mucho tiempo un aspirante de primer nivel en un campo muy abierto con varios demócratas destacados y dos republicanos de cara a la primaria no partidista del estado del 2 de junio.
