Nasry “Tito” Asfura, declarado como ganador de las elecciones presidenciales de Honduras por la autoridad electoral, llamó a la reconciliación en un mensaje de Nochebuena el miércoles, al tiempo que su competidor más cercano, Salvador Nasralla, aseguró que no acepta el resultado.

“Es tiempo de reconciliación, de unidad y de paz. Debemos de reconocernos como lo que somos: una solo familia hondureña”, dijo Asfura, en un video compartido en Facebook.

El candidato del conservador Partido Nacional, quien fue respaldado por el presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, días antes de las elecciones del 30 de noviembre pasado, dijo que no le va a fallar a los hondureños cuando asuma como mandatario del país, a fines de enero.

Más temprano el miércoles, Asfura celebró la declaratoria del Consejo Nacional Electoral (CNE) que indica que es el ganador de las elecciones y aseguró que está “preparado para gobernar”.

“Reconozco la gran labor realizada por las consejeras y todo el equipo que llevó a cabo el desarrollo de las elecciones”, escribió en X. “Honduras: Estoy preparado para gobernar. No te voy a fallar. ¡Dios Bendiga Honduras!”, agregó.

Según la presidenta del CNE, Ana Paola Hall, y la consejera vocal Cossette López, que impulsaron la declaratoria, Asfura superó por el 0,74 % de la votación a su más cercano rival, Salvador Nasralla, del Partido Liberal. Ese estrecho margen equivale a un poco más de 27.000 votos.

Asfura tuvo el 40,27 % de los votos frente al 39,53 % de Nasralla, de acuerdo con las consejeras. En tercer lugar quedó la candidata Rixi Moncada, del gobernante Partido Libertad y Refundación, con el 19,19 % de los sufragios.

La declaración de triunfo de Asfura llegó después de un lento proceso poselectoral marcado por un escrutinio especial que comenzó con cinco días de retraso, tuvo interrupciones, desencadenó protestas. En ese conteo, no se revisaron todas las actas con inconsistencias. Las consejeras Hall y López defendieron la decisión de emitir la declaratoria aun sin concluir el escrutinio especial de algunas actas. Dijeron que, de un total de 19.153 actas recibidas, 18.820 fueron divulgadas correctamente mientras 333 tienen inconsistencias. Agregaron que esto implica que el 98,27 % de las actas se pueden considerar como “divulgadas y consistentes”.

Marlon David Ochoa, consejero secretario que completa el pleno del CNE, se opuso a la declaratoria el martes y aseguró que se estaba por consumar un “golpe de Estado electoral” porque, adujo, se buscaba declarar a un ganador sin que termine el escrutinio especial.

Tanto el partido de Nasralla como el oficialista Partido Libertad y Refundación advirtieron que impugnarán el proceso.

Poco después de conocerse la declaratoria del CNE, Nasralla, del Partido Liberal, afirmó que no está dispuesto a aceptar un resultado “construido sobre omisiones”.

(CNN) — Christmas celebrations have returned to the birthplace of Jesus after a two-year hiatus, but the joy remains overshadowed by another turbulent year for Palestinians living under an Israeli-occupation in the West Bank.

Morning mass was held at the Church of Nativity in Bethlehem on Thursday, a day after crowds of Palestinians and foreign tourists flocked onto Manger Square to attend celebrations for the first time since they were halted in solidarity with Palestinians suffering a two-year deadly war in Gaza.

Despite the festivities, the numbers of people attending remained limited, which, according to Palestinian politician Mustafa Barghouti, is due to Israeli military checkpoints blocking roads in the West Bank.

“The West Bank is completely under siege,” Barghouti told CNN’s Matthew Chance in Bethlehem on Wednesday. “Israel has blocked the roads. Of course many people couldn’t come. … Many people cannot afford to come, and many people find great difficulty moving from one place to another.”

As the war in Gaza raged on, the occupied West Bank experienced a sharp escalation in Israeli military operations, record numbers of Palestinian home demolitions and unprecedented expansion of Jewish settlements amid a Palestinian leadership plagued by allegations of corruption and stagnant decision-making.

In 2025, more than 30,000 Palestinians were forcibly displaced from their homes in cities in the West Bank in “what has become the longest and largest displacement crisis in the West Bank since 1967,” the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) said in a report published November.

The West Bank, which lies west of the Jordan River between Israel and Jordan, has been occupied by the Israeli military since 1967 and is home to more than 3.3 million Palestinians.

This year saw a record number of Palestinian home and structures demolition in the West Bank over building permits, but human rights group, like the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) said in October that the destruction is a “deliberate policy of dispossession.”

“Families are being stripped of homes, water and livelihoods in a calculated effort to drive them from their land and make way for settlements,” said Angelita Caredda, NRC’s Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa. “This is not accidental destruction. It is a deliberate policy of dispossession.”

Killings have also continued in the West Bank, with at least 233 Palestinians killed this year alone, including 52 children, most of whom by Israeli forces using live ammunition, according to data from OCHA. Israeli forces have launched several widescale military operations against Palestinian militant groups in cities in the West Bank.
