Britney Spears pleads guilty to reckless driving charge and multi-month probation terms Monday

VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. (KEYT) – An attorney on behalf of Britney Spears entered a guilty plea to a charge of reckless driving involving alcohol and an impairing drug during court proceedings Monday.

Under the terms of the plea, Spears has been placed on 12 months of summary probation, awarded credit for time served, must pay state-mandated fines and fees, and must complete a three-month (thirty-hour) first offender DUI program shared the the Ventura County District Attorney's Office in a press release Monday.

"Ms. Spears took responsibility for this misdemeanor offense, entering a guilty plea at the earliest
stage and two months from the day she was arrested," stated District Attorney Erik Nasarenko.
"Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and doing so recklessly and erratically is an
extremely serious crime endangering everyone on our roads and freeways."

Spears' probation terms include submitting to chemical testing for alcohol and drugs while driving, not operating any vehicle with an intoxicant in her system, and agreeing to search terms related to drugs or alcohol in a vehicle she is operating noted the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.

According to the local prosecutor's office, Spears is also required to continue substance abuse and mental health treatment.

"Our goal is not only to hold individuals accountable, but to support long-term behavioral change
through treatment and rehabilitation," noted District Attorney Nasarenko. "The court has put those
conditions in place. It is now up to Ms. Spears to follow them."

Prosecutors initially filed a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and Monday's plea resolved the legal claims consistent with cases involving defendants with no prior DUI history, a low blood alcohol level, and no collision explained the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.

Tourism in SLO County Saw Record Breaking 7.7 Million Visitors in 2025

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (KEYT) - Official tourism data released Monday morning showed a record number of visitors spent time in San Luis Obispo County last year.

According to a Visit California economic impact report, visitation in San Luis Obispo County totaled 7.7 million in 2025, a record-breaking amount with a 3.5% year-over-year (YoY) increase.

The information was part of an annual tourism summery released annually each May by Visit SLO CAL, the official destination marketing and management organization for San Luis Obispo County.

Several other tourism related metrics were also part of the report, including:

  • $2.37 billion in direct travel spending (up 3.8% YoY) 
  • 24,580 tourism-supported jobs (up 430 jobs YoY)
  • $1.01 billion in direct earnings (up 5.3% YoY)
  • $215.5 million in total state and local tax revenue, including $112.5 million in local taxes
  • Tourism accounts for 9.7% of countywide GDP
  • 7.7 million visitors (up 3.5% YoY)

"2025 was a breakthrough year for tourism in SLO CAL," said Cathy Cartier, President and CEO, Visit SLO CAL. "Across the region, our visitors, partners and communities came together to build something stronger than what came before the pandemic. These results speak to the power of consistency, collaboration and shared momentum."
