Printed copies of documents released by the U.S. Justice Department in connection with court cases involving the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein

By Dan Berman, CNN

(CNN) — A federal judge unsealed a purported suicide note from Jeffrey Epstein on Wednesday.

The unverified and undated document was placed on the court docket in the case of a former cellmate of the late convicted sex offender who said he had found the note.

The note — which is not signed — reads, in part:

“They investigated me for month – found NOTHING!!!

“It is a treat to be able to chose ones time to say goodbye.”

“NO FUN – NOT WORTH IT!!

District Judge Kenneth Karas of the Southern District of New York ordered the release of the note following a request from The New York Times.

The note’s unsealing comes amid ongoing interest in the so-called Epstein files, his death by suicide in 2019 and federal investigations into his activities. The Justice Department released millions of documents related to Epstein after Congress passed a transparency bill last fall.

In a court filing, the Justice Department indicated it did not know if the purported note is legitimate.

“There appears to be a strong public interest in the circumstances surrounding Epstein’s death as described in the unsealing motion,” the department said.

CNN has reached out to DOJ for comment.

VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. (KEYT) – Oxnard para-educator Miguel De Jesus Marquez pled guilty to one felony count of luring after exchanging inappropriate messages with a 15-year-old he knew through his job and a familial relationship.

In August of 2024, Marquez was employed by the Oxnard School District as a classroom assistant for teachers when he began communicating with a 15-year-old girl who was a student at one of the schools he worked at and they knew each other through a familial relationship stated a press release Wednesday from the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.

Marquez communicated with the minor through text messages and through social media and the messages became sexual in nature before Marquez began sending nude images of himself to the 15-year-old via Snapchat and asking her to send images of herself of a sexual nature detailed the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.

A report was filed through Children and Family Services and Marquez was arrested on June 4, 2025, shared the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.

Marquez is scheduled to be sentenced on June 10, 2026, where he faces one year in jail and probation noted the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.

He remains out of custody on his own recognizance until his sentencing hearing added the local prosecutor's office.

"This case is a stark reminder that social media can be used to exploit and manipulate minors," noted Deputy District Attorney Morgan Luna who prosecuted the case. "Parents and guardians need to stay actively involved in their children's online lives, know who they're communicating with, monitor their apps, and have ongoing conversations about online safety."

Judge won’t order DOJ to return seized 2020 ballots to Fulton County

An employee of the Fulton County Board of Registration and Elections processes ballots in Atlanta

By Tierney Sneed

(CNN) — A federal judge said Wednesday he would not order the Justice Department to return ballots from the 2020 presidential election it seized from Fulton County, Georgia, rejecting a request by county officials.

Judge JP Boulee said the county had not met the high legal bar that would allow him to intervene, even as he acknowledged that “events leading up to this case are, in a variety of ways, unprecedented.”

The order comes months after the FBI searched a Fulton County elections office in January and seized election materials. That search was based on a warrant application that leaned on allegations of election fraud that have long circulated in far-right circles. The county quickly filed a lawsuit to retrieve the documents.

The FBI has been probing what the DOJ has described as irregularities in how Fulton County carried out the 2020 election, which President Donald Trump has falsely claimed was rigged.

Fulton County officials have proposed in court filings the criminal investigation appears to be a “pretext to acquire records that this Administration was unable to quickly secure via the civil litigation process.”

But the Justice Department has argued that theory is “nonsensical for multiple reasons” and that the county had not met the high bar required for ordering the seized materials be returned.

The FBI moved seized the election materials just a few weeks after opening a criminal probe, an unusually fast pace for a case of its kind, experts previously told CNN.

Meanwhile, the Fulton County Board of Registration and Elections is trying to block the Justice Department from gaining access to the personal information of thousands of 2020 election workers.

CNN’s Aleena Fayaz, Piper Hudspeth Blackburn and Kaanita Iyer contributed to this report.
