Hot Tuesday, temperatures soar Wednesday

Kraig Pakulski 0 15 Article rating: No rating

Happy Tuesday! We begin the morning with clear skies for almost all beach areas. Offshore flow is set in stone for the next few days, meaning humidity lowers and we heat quickly. Highs rise 5+ degrees from Monday. Expect 70s and 80s for most areas. Winds may be breezy at times in Ventura, however not quite up to advisory levels yet. High Surf Advisory holds through 9am, then head out into the waters!

Peak heating occurs Wednesday. Not only will our high pressure system be at its peak strength, we have two other systems to the east, helping to aid in sweltering temperatures. Expect daily records to be broken and "feels like" temperatures to read well above the measured numbers. Highs rise into the 80s and 90s for most areas. Winds will be extra strong through Ventura and Wind Advisories and High Wind Warnings may be issued. Stay cool and seek shade when working outside. Avoid strenuous activity during peak heating times. Save your runs for early in the morning or late in the afternoon!

We hold toasty through Thursday, however clouds increase significantly. It'll feel muggy and is not a great day to get a tan. A small stem pushed mid to high level clouds from the south and north, so expect partly to mostly cloudy skies. Heat eases Friday into the weekend. Onshore flow and marine clouds will return. Small rain chances in the far extended, more info to come.

5 things to know for Feb. 3: Moon mission delayed, Nancy Guthrie, Immigration crackdown, Epstein files, Russian strikes

There is now a $2 fee to toss coins into Rome’s Trevi Fountain — but some tourists are ignoring the new rules altogether. A city official said patrols may be introduced after visitors this week flung coins toward the fountain from beyond the barriers, sending people ducking for cover.

Here’s what else you need to know to get up to speed and on with your day.

1⃣ Moon mission delayed

NASA has delayed the launch of its historic Artemis II lunar mission, which is set to send four astronauts into deep space for the first time since the Apollo program ended more than five decades ago. The mission had been scheduled to lift off as soon as February 8, but NASA said several issues emerged during a wet dress rehearsal conducted early today, including hydrogen leaks. The agency is now targeting March for the earliest possible launch, giving teams additional time to review data and conduct a second rehearsal.

2⃣ Nancy Guthrie

The mother of “Today” anchor Savannah Guthrie is missing after being abducted from her Arizona home. Law enforcement said Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen at her residence near Tucson on Saturday night and was reported missing after she did not show up to church Sunday morning. When law enforcement arrived at her house on Sunday, they found what Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos described as “very concerning” evidence, indicating she was likely taken from her bed. A criminal investigation is underway and police say time is of the essence to find her, especially since she is without the crucial medication she takes daily.

3⃣ Immigration crackdown

All Homeland Security officers in Minneapolis are being issued body cameras, Secretary Kristi Noem announced Monday. Previously, some federal officers had resorted to filming tense interactions with protesters on their personal devices. The move is intended to improve transparency after two US citizens were fatally shot by federal agents in the city last month. The initiative also comes amid heightened scrutiny and public criticism over the aggressive conduct of some ICE agents in various states. “As funding is available, the body camera program will be expanded nationwide,” Noem said. President Donald Trump weighed in on Monday, saying that he supports the initiative.

4⃣ Epstein files

Last week’s release of more than 3 million documents related to Jeffrey Epstein has raised new questions about others connected to the late sex offender. However, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche on Monday again signaled that the Justice Department does not expect to bring charges against anyone else with ties to the disgraced financier, adding, “It’s not a crime to party with Mr. Epstein.” Blanche said the review of the Epstein files is now complete and that the White House had “no oversight” of the process. President Trump, meanwhile, told reporters Monday that the Justice Department should now move on

There are many famous names in the Epstein files

Elon Musk and Howard Lutnick walk on the South Lawn of the White House before boarding Marine One on March 14

(CNN) — The major headlines from the latest dump of files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein focus on President Donald Trump, former President Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Elon Musk and the former Prince Andrew, among others. And rightly so. Those names are sprinkled throughout the documents.

Epstein’s alleged victims, meanwhile, were horrified that the Department of Justice posted unredacted nude images before taking them down, according to reporting that first appeared in The New York Times.

The overdue saga of releasing files related to the convicted child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein will continue. Millions of files have now been released; more are expected.

There are many boldface names sprinkled throughout the millions of documents released so far. Some mentions seem to contradict previous statements, such as Elon Musk’s apparent desire in an email to attend a “wild” party on Epstein’s island. Musk denies ever going to the island or attending such a party.

There are countless awkward revelations in the files, including Martha Stewart trying to get Epstein’s cell phone number and Katie Couric commending a “ROCKIN” lasagna she had at his party. The crown princess of Norway offered some strange comments about infidelity. The celebrity doctor Peter Attia made crass jokes. New York Giants co-owner Steve Tisch was apparently in pursuit of women.

These are some of the glimpses of the rarefied air in which Epstein traveled, even after the controversial 2008 plea deal in which he was convicted on charges related to the solicitation of a minor.

The inclusion of a person’s name in the file release does not indicate they participated in or were aware of Epstein’s crimes, although most of the exchanges below occurred after his initial conviction.

Bill Gates is the subject of salacious draft messages

The long relationship between Gates and Epstein is well documented. The latest document release only raises new questions. It’s not clear who wrote what look to be draft messages from 2013 saved in Epstein’s email account. But they appear to document, in stream-of-consciousness style, feelings of betrayal aimed at the Microsoft co-founder. The drafts mention marital discord between Gates and his then-wife Melinda. There is discussion of business deals, the idea of Gates having concerns about a sexually transmitted disease, and soured business ventures. The draft message expresses concern that a public divorce between Bill and Melinda Gates would hurt their foundation. Later, that divorce would be a yearslong process.
