Trump says Kennedy Center will close in July for two years for renovations

By Piper Hudspeth Blackburn, CNN

(CNN) — The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington will close for roughly two years to allow for extensive renovations, President Donald Trump said Sunday.

Trump, who is also chair of the newly rebranded Trump Kennedy Center, said on social media he determined that the closure, slated for July 4, “will produce a much faster and higher quality result” as he seeks to rebuild the complex.

Trump said the move is pending approval by the center’s board, whose members were picked by the president.

“This important decision, based on input from many Highly Respected Experts, will take a tired, broken, and dilapidated Center, one that has been in bad condition, both financially and structurally for many years, and turn it into a World Class Bastion of Arts, Music, and Entertainment, far better than it has ever been before,” he said, adding that financing is “fully in place.”

CNN has reached out to the Kennedy Center and the White House for additional details.

The president’s announcement comes as the nation’s preeminent performing arts center contends with a flood of cancellations that began soon after the board added the president’s name to the complex. Most recently, award-winning composer Philip Glass withdrew the June world premiere of his symphony based on Abraham Lincoln.

Trump has made reshaping the Kennedy Center a priority in his second term. His “One Big, Beautiful Bill” included $257 million for “necessary expenses for capital repair, restoration, maintenance backlog, and security structures.” Trump has touted restoration of the exterior marble, the interior chairs and “fully” renovated stages, which he said last summer will be complete within a year.

February starting our sunny and nice, Monday Feb 2nd forecast

Golf Weather

Slightly cooler weather today as winds turned just enough onshore or more from the west bringing in more mild ocean air. Look for a slight chance for low lying patchy fog through the overnight with lows in the 40's and 50's. For Monday, look for mostly sunny to at times, partly cloudy skies and temperatures mostly in the 60's and 70's. Winds will be variable with early offshore breezes turning onshore by the afternoon.

Looking ahead, our Winter has really taken a step back in to what we normally see in October or early November. The storm carrying Jet Stream continues to run well over the top of us and the very wet southerly moisture that we saw in late December is now staying well to our south. We are expecting to see cooler temperatures to start the new work week and then high pressure is expected once again strengthen with more breezy offshore winds and another warm up. Winds could get strong enough to warrant a Wind Advisory being issued for portions of Ventura County in the usual wind prone areas. Look for widespread 70's and 80's with maybe even a 90 being reached as a result of the warm winds. High pressure will then quickly break down as we head toward the weekend and some of our long range forecast models are hinting a sprinkle chance somewhere around the following Monday or Tuesday. We will keep a close on that and hopefully see a return of more rain as we could definitely uses some more.

Los mejores looks de la alfombra roja de los premios Grammy

Kraig Pakulski 0 22 Article rating: No rating

The most striking looks from the Grammys red carpet

By Oscar Holland and Stephy Chung; CNN Photo editor: Jennifer Arnow, CNN

(CNN) — The music industry’s red carpets are usually bolder, brighter and more adventurous than their Hollywood counterparts. And they don’t get bigger than the Grammys — the awards ceremony that brought you Michael Jackson’s bedazzled military jacket, Pharrell Williams’ oversized hat and that plunging green Jennifer Lopez dress.

Attendees are, as we speak, descending on LA’s Crypto.com Arena for this year’s ceremony. Whether any can go down in Grammys fashion history is another question altogether, but the nominees feature not just music royalty but bona fide style icons, including Lady Gaga and Bad Bunny.

Elsewhere, the likes of Harry Styles and Charli XCX are among those set to present awards, while the 95 categories — a record number for the Grammys — feature numerous fashion-forward breakout stars, from Addison Rae to the cast of “KPop Demon Hunters.”
