Los equipos de rescate de Indonesia informaron este lunes que han recuperado un cadáver en las aguas cercanas al lugar donde el pasado viernes naufragó un barco turístico, y donde se busca a cuatro españoles desaparecidos.

Según el comunicado de la Agencia Nacional de Búsqueda y Rescate (BASARNAS), un residente de la isla de Serai vio un cuerpo flotando a unas 0,5 millas náuticas del punto del posible hundimiento del barco donde viajaban los españoles. Un balsa de los rescatistas acudió esta mañana a recuperar los restos sin vida, y están en proceso de verificar su identidad.

China anunció el lunes la movilización de unidades del Ejército, la Armada, la Aviación y de cohetes en torno a Taiwán en importantes ejercicios militares para poner a prueba su preparación para el combate y enviar una “seria advertencia” contra cualquier intento de independencia taiwanesa.

El Gobierno taiwanés condenó los ejercicios, acusando a China de “intimidación militar”.

China ha intensificado significativamente los ejercicios de cerco sobre Taiwán desde 2022, tras la visita a Taipéi de la entonces presidenta de la Cámara de Representantes de Estados Unidos, Nancy Pelosi, que representó una importante muestra de apoyo a Taiwán y enfureció a los líderes de Beijing.

El Comando del Teatro de Operaciones Oriental de China está llevando a cabo los últimos ejercicios, denominados “Misión Justa 2025”, en cinco bloques de océano alrededor de la isla, incluyendo el Estrecho de Taiwán, al norte, suroeste, sureste y este de Taiwán.

Las áreas estarán sujetas a restricciones marítimas y aéreas durante 10 horas a partir de las 8:30 a. m., hora local.

Shi Yi, portavoz del Comando del Teatro de Operaciones Oriental, afirmó que los ejercicios se centrarán en el entrenamiento en patrullas de preparación para el combate marítimo y aéreo, la toma de control integral y el bloqueo y control de puertos clave y zonas críticas.

Este último ejercicio se produce tras un acuerdo armamentístico histórico por US$ 11.100 millones entre Estados Unidos y Taiwán, que incluyó sistemas de cohetes HIMARS, misiles antitanque y antiblindaje, drones merodeadores, obuses y software militar.

También se produce después de que Biejing expresara su indignación por las declaraciones de la primera ministra japonesa, Sanae Takaichi, quien afirmó que su país podría responder militarmente si China intentara tomar el control de Taiwán por la fuerza.

“Este ejercicio sirve como una seria advertencia a las fuerzas separatistas que abogan por la ‘independencia de Taiwán’ y a las fuerzas externas intrusivas, y es una acción legítima y necesaria para salvaguardar la soberanía nacional y mantener la unidad nacional”, declaró Shi.

El Partido Comunista de China afirma que Taiwán, un país autónomo y democrático, forma parte de su territorio soberano, a pesar de nunca haberlo controlado.

En un comunicado, la portavoz presidencial de Taiwán, Karen Kuo, afirmó que los ejercicios militares “socavan flagrantemente el statu quo de seguridad y estabilidad del Estrecho de Taiwán y la región del Indopacífico” y “desafían abiertamente el derecho y el orden internacionales”.

“Condenamos enérgicamente el desprecio de las autoridades chinas por las normas internacionales y su uso de la intimidación militar para amenazar a los países vecinos”, declaró Kuo.

(CNN) — China’s military announced Monday it was mobilizing army, navy, air and rocket units around Taiwan in major military drills to test what it said was combat readiness and to send a “serious warning” against any push for Taiwanese independence.

Taiwan’s government condemned the drills, accusing China of “military intimidation.”

China has significantly stepped up Taiwan encirclement drills since 2022, following then US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taipei which marked a significant show of support for Taiwan and infuriated Beijing’s leadership.

China’s Eastern Theatre Command is conducting the latest drills, called the “Just Mission 2025,” in five blocks of ocean around the island, including in the Taiwan Strait, to Taiwan’s north, southwest, southeast and east.

The areas will be under sea and air space restrictions for 10 hours from 8:30 a.m. local time.

Shi Yi, spokesperson for the Eastern Theater Command, said the drills will focus on “training in sea-and-air combat readiness patrols, seizing comprehensive control” and “blockade and control of key ports and critical areas.”

The latest drill follows a landmark $11.1 billion arms deal between US and Taiwan, which included HIMARS rocket systems, anti-tank and anti-armor missiles, loitering drones, howitzers and military software.

It also comes after Beijing expressed anger at a remarks by Japan’s Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi, who said her country could respond militarily if China were to move to take control of Taiwan by force.

“This exercise serves as a serious warning to ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist forces and external interfering forces, and is a legitimate and necessary action to safeguard national sovereignty and maintain national unity,” Shi said.

China’s Communist Party claims self-ruled and democratic Taiwan as part of its sovereign territory, despite never having controlled it.

In a statement, Taiwan’s presidential spokesperson Karen Kuo said the drills “blatantly undermines the security and stability status quo of the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific region” and “openly challenges international laws and order.”

“We strongly condemn the Chinese authorities’ disregard for international norms and their use of military intimidation to threaten neighboring countries,” Kuo said.
