El presidente saliente de Costa Rica, Rodrigo Chaves, encabezará los ministerios de la Presidencia y de Hacienda en el Gobierno que la derechista Laura Fernández comenzará el 8 de mayo.

Así lo anunció este martes la propia presidenta electa, en un acto público en el que presentó a todos los integrantes de su gabinete, elogió a Chaves y prometió dar continuidad a su gestión (2022-2026), en la que ella fue ministra de la Presidencia y de Planificación.

“Sería mezquino abandonar el camino de bienestar construido por don Rodrigo Chaves y también sería iluso retroceder en los grandes avances que ha tenido nuestro país”, dijo Fernández al principio del encuentro.

Momentos más tarde, tras anunciar el nombramiento de Chaves, la presidenta electa agregó: “Estoy segurísima que, tal y como lo hemos hecho desde el primer día de su Gobierno, vamos a seguir trabajando en equipo muy bien”.

Durante la presentación, se explicó que el mandatario saliente también coordinará todos los asuntos económicos en el gabinete de Fernández.

La presidenta electa, politóloga de formación, asumirá el Gobierno de Costa Rica luego de ganar en primera vuelta las elecciones del 1 de febrero.

Postulada por el Partido Pueblo Soberano, Fernández obtuvo más del 48 % de la votación, alrededor 15 puntos arriba del segundo lugar, Liberación Nacional, según los resultados del Tribunal Supremo de Elecciones.

Fernández llegará a la Presidencia de Costa Rica con retos como enfrentar crecientes niveles de violencia atribuidos a la actividad de grupos criminales.

Si bien el país centroamericano tiene indicadores menores a los de otros de América Latina —como México, Honduras o Ecuador—, registra cifras inusuales de homicidios. Frente a problemas como este, durante la campaña Fernández propuso diversas medidas como suspender garantías en algunas zonas con el argumento de que eso facilitará el arresto de delincuentes.

LOMPOC, Calif. (KEYT) - Community members in Lompoc took advantage of Cinco de Mayo falling on Taco Tuesday. 

Keyarah Martinez, a local teen who is campaigning for Flower Festival Queen partnered with a local business to organize a Cinco De Mayo party.

Initially a commemoration of the Mexican army’s victory over French forces in 1862, Cinco de Mayo has since become a traditional celebration of Mexican-American heritage.

It might be a convenient coincidence that the celebration fell on Taco Tuesday this year, but Martinez took advantage of it.

In addition to bounce houses for kids, music, and festive beverages, a taco eating contest brings the event together with the culturally originated but internationally favorite finger food.

The first place winner wins a cash prize and 2nd & 3rd place winners will bring home gift cards to local businesses.

This early-in-the-week evening of family fun is expecting a big turnout from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.

The winner of the Flower Festival Queen, based on raffle ticket sales, will be coronated prior to the festival next month.
