SANTA MARIA, Calif. (KEYT) - Tucker Allen is no stranger to the Santa Maria Elks Rodeo, but this year, the Ventura steer wrestler is competing for the first time ever as the defending world champion.

Last December, the Nordhoff High School graduate captured his first ever world title at the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) in Las Vegas to cap off an incredible run over the 10-long event.

"It's pretty surreal," said Allen. "It's a blessing honestly to have that title by your name. I know a lot of guys that rodeo their whole careers and never get the opportunity to do it. I've only made 2 NFRs and I guess I got one so far, so at the end of the day, if it ends now, I've had a good career."

At 26-years-old, Allen is hoping for a long career competing in the sport he has been part of since he was 14-years-old while growing up in Ventura County.

"I love Ventura and the Ojai area down there. It's kind of a hidden gem. A lot of people don't realize it's pretty cowboy. Ventura has a big ranching history and I think we have some of the best cowboys in the world. People just don't realize that. You think of Ventura as a beach city, but behind those hills on the beach is nothing but cattle."

This week, Allen returns close to home taking part in the Santa Maria Elks Rodeo in an arena he knows quite well.

"I grew up high school rodeoing here," said Allen. "I have so many family and friends from all up and down the Central Coast. We come here every year and it's kind of like a spot where we get to hang out, get to spend time here. The committee is outstanding and the best hospitality I think in the country. They just they treat us like family here. I've been to a lot of rodeos, but being on the Central Coast is kind of the funnest place to be."

Just hours after competing in the Music City Rodeo in Nashville on Thursday night where he finished in first place in the average, Allen was inside the Santa Maria Elks Event Center taking part in the Friday morning slack competition.

He will also participate in Santa Maria on Saturday night and is looking to add a victory to add to his growing resume of impressive victories and accomplishment.

"I ran my steer and might have won some money, but if I didn't I'm set up good for my second steer," said Allen. "My second steer will be here Saturday night and get to compete there. It's on the two-head average on who wins this rodeo, so if I can do another good run, I should get a good average check and hopefully get a round check in the second round."

Allen compeThe Santa Maria Elks Rodeo and Parade will be held May 27-31 at the Elks Event Center, located just off of Santa Maria Way on the east side of Highway 101.

SLO County Grand Jury Report Details Needed Maintenance at Santa Margarita Cemetery

SANTA MARGARITA, Calif. (KEYT) – In a new report, the San Luis Obispo County Grand Jury responded to a citizen's complaint regarding the disorganized maintenance of the Santa Margarita Cemetery, revealing the lack of transparency and upkeep of the grounds.

The Grand Jury received the initial complaint back in November 2024, claiming the cemetery was not being well-maintained, headstones were not properly placed, plots did not have proper marks or signage, notices of board meetings and minutes were not publicly posted, and contact information such as phone numbers, email addresses, or a website were not easily available.

The Santa Margarita Cemetery was established in the 1880s, and has been overseen by the Santa Margarita Cemetery District (SMCD) since 1909. The group was formed by the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors to maintain the approximately 7.9 acres of cemetery parcel.

Located at 7500 W Pozo Rd, the Grand Jury visited the cemetery in September 2025 as part of their investigation into the complaint. According to the report, upon arrival overall appearance of the landscape seemed "disorderly."

Included in this investigation was reviews of legal documents, penal codes, health and safety codes, previous reports and complaints, and interviews of knowledgeable parties.

The visit on September 23rd, 2025 confirmed that attempting to locate a plot inside the cemetery is difficult. The Jury found there were no markings on the curbs that indicate sections or rows, there were no posts or signs indicating sections or rows, and there was no posted map indicating where the sections and/or rows would be located.

Large maps and physical files were only available by contacting the SMCD board directly. At the time of their visit, the Jury concluded SMCD had not established a proper website for the public to find contact information, maps, or meeting notices and agendas – as previously suggested by the 2021/2022 Grand Jury.

California law, known as The Brown Act, requires public postings of board agendas no less than 72 hours in advance by public institutions.

Following the visit, a website was curated by SMCD in February 2026 and has been maintained with the proper information since then.

Findings and recommendations from the Grand Jury push for improvements of overall groundskeeping and organization, stating:

"The Grand Jury toured a different, nearby cemetery and saw that it was well-groomed, well-mapped, and consistently maintained. The SMC is over a century old, and its rural setting was originally part of a ranch; however, that does not mean the grounds do not need to be organized."

White House breaks from precedent by not releasing Trump’s medical report

President Donald Trump departs Walter Reed National Military Medical Center en route to the White House

By Adam Cancryn, CNN

(CNN) — The White House has yet to release any results from President Donald Trump’s most recent physical exam, a break from its own past practice that’s likely to fuel further questions about his health and fitness.

Trump, who is the oldest president to be inaugurated, declared on social media that he was in perfect health following an hourslong visit on Tuesday to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

But despite promising to provide a summary of the checkup in “the next day or so,” the White House has since offered no additional information — nor has it confirmed that Trump’s physician plans at any point to offer a public readout.

The three-day silence marks a departure from the White House’s handling of Trump’s prior physical exams. After a visit to Walter Reed last April, personal physician Dr. Sean Barbabella summarized the results in a memo released two days later. When Trump returned for another exam in October, Barbabella’s declaration that he remained in “exceptional health” was published later the same day.

This time, Trump has so far served as the only source of information about his own health just weeks out from his 80th birthday.

“It’s unimaginable to me that the White House would not release a statement about the president’s health — even the most basic statement,” said Dr. Jonathan Reiner, a professor at The George Washington School of Medicine & Health Sciences who was the longtime cardiologist for former Vice President Dick Cheney. “It’s going to really spark concerns about the president’s fitness for office if the White House refuses to disclose his medical report.”

Trump has long been cagey about any personal health problems, placing a great deal of value on portraying himself as a pinnacle of strength and vitality. On the campaign trail and in the Oval Office, Trump has made his vigor core to his political identity, boasting frequently about his mental and physical well-being. Past medical readouts often reflected this attitude: In Trump’s first term, then-presidential physician Dr. Ronny Jackson effusively praised his “incredible genes” during an hour-long press conference solely about Trump’s health, held at the president’s insistence.

But as he approaches his eighth decade, Trump’s visible signs of aging — and at-times erratic behavior — have nevertheless intensified scrutiny of his health and demands for more disclosure. And after intense doubts swirled about the mental acuity of former President Joe Biden, the American public is perhaps particularly sensitive nowadays to questions about the commander-in-chief’s physical and cognitive health.

Trump suffers from frequent bruising on both of his hands that he’s taken to covering with heavy makeup. After photos last year captured swelling in his legs, the White House disclosed that Trump was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a common condition found in older patients. He was spotted with a rash on his neck i
