EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA) – Aunque el conteo de votos continúa avanzando hasta la tarde de este miércoles, uno de los datos más claros que han dejado las elecciones primarias de este martes en el Condado Imperial es la baja participación ciudadana, esto a pesar de la facilidad de los votantes con la nueva modalidad de centro de votación e incluso el fácil acceso a su boleta.

De acuerdo con los resultados preliminares, hasta la tarde de este miércoles habían emitido su voto 11 mil 324 personas, lo que representa apenas el 11.9 por ciento de los 94 mil 917 votantes registrados en el condado, de acuerdo a datos preliminares.

En la contienda por el Distrito 1 de la Mesa de Supervisores, los resultados preliminares muestran una ventaja para Enrique “Kike” Alvarado, quien registra cerca del 49.4 por ciento de los votos, Telemundo acudió a platicar con el y señaló decirse sorprendido pero satisfecho,

“No esperaba los resultados como salieron. Pensaba que iba a estar un poquito más apretado, pero estoy muy feliz con los resultados y cómo está saliendo todo”, dijo el candidato.

La jornada electoral se desarrolló sin incidentes mayores y contó con la participación de votantes que acudieron por primera vez a las urnas.

Autoridades electorales continuarán contabilizando las boletas recibidas en los próximos días antes de certificar oficialmente los resultados de esta elección primaria.

(CNN) — It’s fair to say that even the most specialized tennis expert would have struggled to predict the semifinalists for this year’s French Open.

For so many years, it’s been the same old faces playing each other in these latter stages of grand slams. But not this year.

Through a mixture of injury, shock results and perhaps the sweltering heat last week, the final four across both the men’s and women’s brackets is looking very unfamiliar, with not a single grand slam winner left in it.

So to help you, and us, learn more about those remaining in the competition, CNN Sports has taken a look into their respective careers.

Marta Kostyuk

Starting with the women’s bracket and Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk.

The 23-year-old has already made history by beating Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, becoming the first Ukrainian woman to reach the last four at Roland Garros in the Open Era, while also reaching the first major semifinal of her career.

Despite still being relatively young, Kostyuk has been around the tour for quite some time, making her grand slam debut back in 2018 at the Australian Open.

Despite being just 15 at the time, she reached the third round before being knocked out by none other than her compatriot Svitolina.

Kostyuk then spent many years battling to maintain her rankings and struggled to make a big impact at the major events. That changed in 2024, when she reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.

Now, she’s enjoying the best form of her life and is currently world No. 15.

While being ecstatic with her achievement this week, Kostyuk also dedicated her emotional quarterfinal win to the people of Ukraine, amid the ongoing war with Russia.

Mirra Andreeva

Notably, Kostyuk will play Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva for a place in the French Open final.

Despite being younger, 19-year-old Andreeva has more experience at this level, having previously made the semifinal at Roland Garros in 2024.

Like Kostyuk, the Russian was also a child prodigy and made her name on the professional tour when she started breaking records at just 17.

In 2025, she became the youngest player to claim a WTA 1000 title and the youngest to climb into the top 10 of the world rankings since 2007.

She is now ranked No. 8 in the world and is playing on her favorite clay surface in Paris.

Diana Shnaider

Another Russian youngster will also be hoping to make it to Saturday’s final, and that’s Diana Shnaider.

The 22-year-old has been on the run of a lifetime in Paris, beating world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the quarterfinals earlier on Wednesday – one of the biggest shocks in a quite ridiculous tournament so far.

La Cámara aprobó este miércoles una resolución para limitar los poderes de guerra del presidente Donald Trump en Irán, una reprimenda significativa a Trump y a su manejo del conflicto.

Los demócratas han forzado repetidamente votaciones para limitar los poderes de guerra de Trump tanto en la Cámara como en el Senado, una campaña que ha ido ganando gradualmente más apoyo del Partido Republicano en las últimas semanas.

La medida, conocida como una resolución concurrente, aprobada por la Cámara el miércoles debe ser aprobada por ambas cámaras, pero no iría al presidente para que la firme.

La votación fue de 215 a 208, con los representantes republicanos Thomas Massie, Brian Fitzpatrick, Tom Barrett y Warren Davidson cruzando líneas partidistas para apoyar la resolución.

La resolución fue presentada por el representante demócrata de Nueva York Gregory Meeks, el miembro de mayor rango de la Comisión de Asuntos Exteriores de la Cámara.

Originalmente, esta votación estaba programada para el 21 de mayo, pero fue cancelada abruptamente por los líderes republicanos justo cuando los republicanos estaban a punto de perder la votación debido a ausencias. Esto, esto nos debilita, nuestra posición y nuestra influencia en la negociación de la paz en esa situación. La ‘Operación Furia Épica’ ha concluido”, dijo a CNN el miércoles.

(CNN) — US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Wednesday that Americans who test positive for Ebola while under observation at a facility in Kenya could be sent for treatment in the United States in an apparent shift from the Trump administration’s position that no one with the virus would be allowed into the country.

“We’re not actually asking Kenya to set up treatment for Americans. I think the one that’s been very controversial is a misunderstanding. There is a facility that the Kenyans are allowing us to open. If there are any Americans that are exposed, potentially exposed, they will be transferred to this facility for observation,” Rubio told a Senate Appropriations subcommittee hearing.

“If they test positive at any time while in that facility, we will remove them from Kenya and send them to the nearest treatment facility, either in Europe or in the home – or in the United States, to be treated for Ebola,” he said.

He did not immediately provide further details.

The US facility in Kenya has faced significant backlash. Rubio said last week that “we cannot and will not allow any cases of Ebola to enter the United States.”

CNN has reached out to the Department of Health and Human Services and the State Department for further details on Rubio’s comments.

In guidance posted on its website, the State Department advises that if a US citizen is asymptomatic but at high risk for exposure, “State Department and U.S. embassy staff may arrange transportation to a facility in Kenya for a 21-day quarantine period from the last date of Ebola exposure, to include access to appropriate medical care provided by expert U.S. clinicians.”

“U.S. citizens who become symptomatic during quarantine may be transported via specialized aeromedical evacuation for appropriate treatment,” the Department said.

If a US citizen is symptomatic or tests positive, the guidance says, “State Department and U.S. embassy staff may arrange specialized aeromedical evacuation to a designated safe location for appropriate treatment.”

It does not give details on such locations.
