Nasire Best, el hombre de 21 años que fue muerto a tiros por agentes frente a la Casa Blanca el sábado, había tenido encuentros previos con el Servicio Secreto, según muestran registros judiciales, incluyendo una ocasión en la que fue internado involuntariamente en un hospital psiquiátrico y otra en la que la Policía local lo arrestó mientras él afirmaba “ser Jesucristo”.

Las redes sociales pertenecientes a Best, por su parte, incluyen una publicación que parecía amenazar con violencia al presidente Trump y otra en la que escribió: “En realidad soy el hijo de Dios”.

El Servicio Secreto informó que los agentes dispararon a un hombre —identificado como Best por fuentes policiales que hablaron con CNN— cuando se acercó a un puesto de control frente a la Casa Blanca y comenzó a disparar contra los agentes. Otro transeúnte resultó herido en el intercambio de disparos.

Trump, quien se encontraba en la Casa Blanca en ese momento, resultó ileso.

Los agentes se habían encontrado con Best en varias ocasiones cerca de la Casa Blanca el verano pasado, según una declaración jurada presentada ante el tribunal, la cual señala que era “conocido por el Servicio Secreto” por “merodear por el complejo de la Casa Blanca preguntando cómo acceder en distintos puntos de entrada”.

Fue internado involuntariamente el 26 de junio de 2025 por “obstruir la entrada de vehículos” a una parte del complejo de la Casa Blanca, según los documentos judiciales.

El 10 de julio de 2025, Best ignoró las señales de advertencia y entró en una zona restringida frente a la Casa Blanca, según la declaración jurada, donde varios agentes lo confrontaron. Best afirmó ser Jesús y dijo “que quería ser arrestado”, según el informe.

Santa Barbara man arrested for driving stolen car also found with drugs and gun

VENTURA, Calif. (KEYT) – Ventura Police arrested a 21-year-old man from Santa Barbara for multiple felonies after driving a stolen car.

VPD officers stopped the 21-year-old after finding out he stole the car and later found a loaded gun without a serial number alongside methamphetamine in his possession.

The 21-year-old is prohibited from possessing both guns and ammo and received bookings for all three charges.

Eagle Scout Project rolls out cyclists repair station

Eagle Scout Project rolled out to help cyclists make repairs

SUMMERLAND, Calif. (keyt) May is CycleMAYnia and National Bike Month.

That makes it the perfect time to roll out a Cyclist Repair Station along a popular bike route.

It is Eli LoMonaco's Eagle Scout Project.

The new place for cyclists to stop and tune up is located at Summerland Memorial Park near the Summerland Fire Station.

Troop 50 members and parents were on hand for the dedication.

"I wanted to install this bike repair station because I'm very into biking," said LoMonaco, "and I've seen several of these stands, everywhere I've gone biking.

Scouts hope to add a water bottle refill station in the future. 

Carpinteria Lumber, South Coast Firefighter Foundation and Carpinteria Summerland Fire contributed to the Eagle Scout Project.

UCSD scored 5 runs on just 1 it in the first inning

IRVINE, Calif. (KEYT) - No. 3 seed UC San Diego decisively defeated top-seeded UC Santa Barbara with a 7-0 victory in the 2026 Big West Baseball Championship, Saturday at Cicerone Field at Anteater Ballpark.

UC San Diego capitalized on a five-run first inning, scored two runs in the fourth inning and maintained their lead with a complete-game shutout performance.

The Tritons (26-27) advance to the title game of the championship, taking on No. 2 seed Cal Poly, Saturday May 23 at 6 p.m.

The Gauchos (38-18) will hope to hear their name called in the NCAA Baseball Championship Selection Show, Monday, May 25 at 9 a.m. PT on ESPN2.

UCSD starting pitcher Nathan Ries threw a complete game shutout, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out four batters. Left fielder Alex Leopard went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Designated hitter Addison Kepsch recorded two RBI and catcher Trevian Martinez scored two runs.

UCSB third baseman Xavier Esquer went 2-for-3. The Gaucho relief trio of Van Froling, Josh Jannicelli and Nathan Aceves did not allow a run in the final five innings.

The Tritons got the scoring started with five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Leopard hit an RBI single to plate Anthony Potestio and two Gaucho errors brought in four UCSD runs.
UC San Diego scored two more runs in the fourth inning as a single from Klepsch plated Nick Costello and Martinez.

i Madonnari artists being their masterpieces

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) The 40th iMadonnari Italian Street Painting Festival got underway on Saturday,

Artists began their work on sponsored squares in front of the old mission Santa Barbara.

There is plenty of room to watch them work.

Terri Tabor, who was one of last year's featured artist worked with her grandson by her side.

This year's featured artist is Marlon Yanes.

Yanes masterpiece is coming to life in front of the Mission steps

There is also Super Square this year featuring multiple artists including Ann Hefferman

"We are doing recreating William Morris tapestry, so it is very collaborative, we are all consulting," said Hefferman, " the goal today is getting all the animals done."

Logan Vogt of Ojai enjoyed seeing the creative process.

"It is beautiful, I mean they are very talented artists, I used to come here 15 years ago and it is still just as amazing as I remembered it," said Vogt.

Parents can also buy squares and pastels for  their budding artists/.

The festival also included live music and food booths.

The money goes to the Children's Creative Project that is known for bringing art classes and supplies and the performing arts to schools countywide
