ORCUTT, Calif. (KEYT) – Santa Barbara County Fire Department crews are battling a vegetation fire near West Clark Ave. and Highway 1 in Orcutt.

It first broke out just after 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and drivers were urged to avoid the area to allow emergency personnel to reach the incident, according to the SBCFD.

Alex Saab, quien fuera un cercano aliado del derrocado presidente venezolano Nicolás Maduro, fue deportado a Estados Unidos, según informó el Gobierno de Venezuela. Saab dirigió el Ministerio de Industrias y Producción Nacional de Venezuela desde octubre de 2024 hasta enero de este año.

La deportación se llevó a cabo este sábado, según un breve comunicado emitido por el Servicio Administrativo de Identificación, Migración y Extranjería de Venezuela (SAIME).

El comunicado indica que Saab enfrentará un proceso judicial en Estados Unidos por presuntos “diversos delitos”, aunque no está claro a qué parte del país será enviado.

CNN contactó al SAIME y busca contactar a los abogados de Saab para obtener más detalles. También se comunicó con los Departamentos de Estado y de Justicia de Estados Unidos para solicitar información.

Saab es un empresario colombiano de origen libanés que fue previamente detenido en Cabo Verde en 2020 y extraditado a Estados Unidos para enfrentar cargos de conspiración para cometer lavado de dinero y por presuntamente ser testaferro del Gobierno venezolano.

En ese momento se declaró inocente y, en 2023, fue indultado por el entonces presidente Joe Biden como parte de un intercambio de prisioneros.

Tras el regreso de Saab a Venezuela, Maduro lo nombró ministro de Industrias y Producción Nacional. Permaneció en ese cargo hasta poco después del derrocamiento de Maduro a principios de este año.

A mediados de enero, la presidenta interina de Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, lo removió del gabinete, una medida que algunos analistas interpretaron como un intento de Rodríguez para distanciarse de Maduro.

UC SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) - The Gauchos will enter next week's Big West Championships as the top seed after completing a 3-game sweep of UC Riverside 5-3.

The Gauchos share the regular season Big West title with Cal Poly but UCSB owns the tiebreaker with a sweep of Cal Poly in early April.

UCSB erased an early 3-0 deficit with a 4-run fifth inning. Jonathan Mendez hit a solo home run and Nate Vargas belted a 2-run shot later in the inning to tie the game at 3. For Vargas it's his team-leading 10h home run on the season. Rowan Kelly singled in William Vasseur to cap off the big inning with UCSB leading 4-3.

Noah Karliner smashed his ninth home run on the season in the sixth inning to wrap up the scoring.

Former Dos Pueblos High School standout Kellan Montgomery bounced back from a second inning 3-run homer by the Highlanders Esteban Sepulveda. The Long Beach State transfer Montgomery pitched 5.2 innings allowing just those three runs while striking out 9 as he improves to 8-3.

After the DP graduate exited, another local hurler, San Marcos alum Chase Hoover took the ball and delivered 2.2 innings of scoreless ball with 3 strikeouts.

(Hoover lowered is ERA for the season to 2.98. Entenza Design).

He allowed his only two hits in the top of the 9th inning and was lifted for freshman Josh Jannicelli who shut the door striking out the only two batters he faced to nail down his third save.

UCSB goes 22-8 in Big West play and will enter the conference tournament with an overall record of 37-16.

The Gauchos first action will be on Thursday at 1 p.m. against the winner of the Wednesday game between #4 Hawai'i and #5 Cal State Fullerton.
