SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) - Library week in Santa Barbara came with a family-friendly game night, off the downtown property and the outreach was in the Funk Zone.

Loteria for the library using the Mexican bingo game known as "Loteria" was redesigned to have Santa Barbara area images.

They included the mission, Stearns Wharf, Fiesta, Summer Solstice and yes -- the library.

As they were called out from large cards, markers were placed on the game cards in front of the players and if you lined up a row you were a winner.

All the tables were full for this special event.

Nathalia Martinez was a winner and said, "it's super fun to be out here supporting the community making sure the library gets funded and everyone known the library is there to be a service to the public."

A Santa Barbara Public Library outreach employee Emily Cruz said, "I see a lot of returning folks who won last year and excited to win again a ton of new faces.  We are excited too see out reach has been expanded with the new library on the go van."

The Loteria winners were given a choice of several gifts including library tote bags.

They were also writing notes to local leaders about their love of the library.

The library on the go van was parked on site and racks of books were available for checkout along with other services.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) - It started in 1970 after a massive oil spill in the coastal waters and now the Earth Day Festival takes place again for two days in Santa Barbara.

It will remind the public of the environmental challenges on earth today and many forward-thinking solutions ahead.

The Community Environmental Council and CarpEvents have organized events and food for thousands of people in Alameda Park Saturday 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Sundy 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.

This year’s theme is Our Power, Our Planet.

The event will have a kids corner, a special stage for the youth who attend, a quiet space for parents and activities planned by a group of dads.

There will also be a large Green Car Show and ebikes available to check out and test drive. In some cases there will be special offers for those attending this event.

There will be no gas powered generators on site and the site will be solar powered.

There will be numerous booths and exhibits set up by environmentally focused groups and non-profits from throughout the area. Those who are looking for information or to join up with an organization can get a wide range of them at this festival.

On stage performers will include, The Doublewide Kings, Spencer the Gardener, The Caverns, Cornerstone and False Puppet.

El especial “Supernova: Génesis”, que marcará la primera transmisión en vivo de Netflix en Latinoamérica, se llevará a cabo el domingo 26 de abril y podrá verse en más de 190 países.

El evento combinará combates de boxeo entre celebridades e influencers con música y entretenimiento. Se transmitirá en vivo desde la Arena Ciudad de México y estará disponible en la plataforma a partir de las 7:00 pm (horario de la capital mexicana; 9:00 pm en Miami).

Las peleas confirmadas son:

• Mario Bautista (México) vs. Aarón Mercury (México)

El cinturón de esta edición está diseñado en color rojo, con una placa central con el nombre del evento, bañada en oro y con incrustaciones de diamantes y rubíes.

En el apartado musical participarán artistas del regional mexicano como Carín León y Óscar Maydón, mientras que el género urbano estará representado por el puertorriqueño Ozuna.

Además, la actriz Bárbara de Regil y el creador de contenido Alexis Omman tendrán una participación especial durante la noche, aunque hasta ahora no se ha detallado cuál será su rol dentro del espectáculo.

INDIO, Calif. (KESQ) – Una mujer ha fallecido tras ser atropellada por un tren en Indio, según ha informado hoy la policía.

Según el Departamento de Policía de Indio, el choque fatal se produjo poco después de las 10:30 p. m. del jueves cerca de Indio Boulevard, al oeste de Fred Waring Drive.

La policía encontró a una mujer que había sufrido lesiones mortales al intentar cruzar las vías del tren por motivos desconocidos, según informó el departamento. La mujer, cuya identidad no se ha revelado, fue declarada muerta en el lugar de los hechos.

La investigación sigue en curso.

El departamento recordó a la ciudadanía los peligros que entraña cruzar las vías del tren y recomendó utilizar los pasos a nivel habilitados y los pasos elevados cercanos a la hora de cruzar las vías.

Un tribunal federal de apelaciones rechazó este viernes —en una opinión dividida— el intento del presidente Donald Trump de impedir unilateralmente que los migrantes que cruzan la frontera entre Estados Unidos y México soliciten asilo allí, lo que prepara el escenario para un probable enfrentamiento sobre esta política ante la Corte Suprema.

La decisión, adoptada por 2 votos a favor y 1 en contra, constituye una derrota significativa para la agenda migratoria de Trump. El Tribunal de Apelaciones del Circuito de la Ciudad de Washington, dictaminó que un decreto emitido por Trump —en su primer día de regreso al cargo— para poner fin al asilo por cualquier medio ignoraba las leyes promulgadas por el Congreso.

“Impedir que individuos extranjeros que se encuentran físicamente presentes en los Estados Unidos soliciten asilo —y, en caso de que cumplan con los requisitos legales que acrediten su elegibilidad, que sean considerados para recibirlo— resulta incompatible con lo establecido en la ley”, escribió en la decisión la jueza Michelle Childs, designada por el expresidente Joe Biden. A su postura se sumó la jueza Nina Pillard, designada por Barack Obama.

Por su parte, el juez Justin Walker —designado por Trump— habría permitido a los migrantes buscar otras formas de protección, pero no el asilo.
