UC SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) - Some of the top talented high school basketball players in the country took the court at the Thunderdome for the Oakland Soldiers AAU Showcase.

Highlighting the afternoon was the jersey retirement of NBA top prospect AJ Dybansta. The former Soldier starred at BYU as a freshman this past season.

Last October the club expanded and opened up a Central Coast Soldiers branch led by coach Darnell Campbell.

Budapest, Hungary (CNN) — In recent decades, the United States and Russia have rarely backed the same candidate in a foreign election. Hungary’s Viktor Orbán was an exception. But as it turned out, they backed the loser.

For the White House, Orbán – a lodestar for right-wing populists – was seen as key to its push for a more nationalist, “like-minded” Europe. For the Kremlin, Orbán was the chief wrecker of the European Union’s efforts to arm Ukraine and wean itself off Russian fossil fuels.

But now, US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin will have to make do without their ally in Budapest. Orbán’s Fidesz government suffered a thumping loss as voters flocked to Péter Magyar’s opposition Tisza party, with a record turnout. Magyar’s campaign railed against the corruption and cronyism that flourished during Orbán’s 16 years in office, calling for a break with Russia and warmer relations with the European Union.

“Our country has no time to lose,” Magyar told reporters in Budapest on Monday. “Hungary is in trouble. It’s been robbed, betrayed, devastated.”

If Magyar’s victory was a blow to Trump and Putin, it came as a huge relief to Europe. “I’m so happy. I think I’m happier than you,” Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on a Sunday night call with Magyar. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, vilified by Orbán’s campaign, congratulated Tisza and said Ukraine was “ready to advance our cooperation with Hungary.”

When Hungary’s new parliament forms in the next 30 days, Magyar will face stiff challenges at home, from boosting Hungary’s anemic economy to weakening Fidesz’s control of the media and judiciary. But the incoming prime minister will also have to juggle the demands of the three powers – the US, Russia and the European Union – that have of late become so invested in Hungary’s affairs.

The path he plots will have consequences far beyond Hungary’s borders.

A ‘defeat’ for MAGA

Once described by Steve Bannon as “Trump before Trump,” Orbán is said to have developed a “model” of illiberal governance. He presented himself as a defender of free speech and “traditional values,” and railed against what he called the corrupting influence of the European Union.

As well as backing Trump’s presidential campaigns, Orbán courted the MAGA movement, positioning Budapest as a European headquarters for the world’s national conservatives. The Trump administration, in turn, threw its weight behind Orbán’s election campaign – with Vice President JD Vance stumping for him in person.

In response to a CNN question at a press conference in Budapest, Magyar said Orbán’s loss was also “a great defeat” for his American supporters. “Orbán was their poster boy,” Magyar said. “He was the intellectual mastermind who was behind this fight against Brussels.”

In a blow to the Trump administration’s push for a more Orbánist Europe, Magyar said his government would not help prop up the ideological infrastructure Orbán has built through generous government grants. For instance, Mathias Corvinus Collegium (MCC) – an educational institute described by critics as a training ground for national conservatives, which Vance visited last week – is funded by a 10% stake in Hungary’s largest oil and gas company.

(CNN) — The image looks like a slice of highly marbled flesh, reminiscent of a high-end steak with abundant fine-grained streaks of fat. But that’s not dinner. It’s an MRI scan of the thigh of a 62-year-old woman who obtained 87% of her annual calories from ultraprocessed food.

“This participant’s diet was mainly comprised of cold cereals, chocolate candy or candy bars, regular soft drinks or bottled sugary drinks,” said Dr. Zehra Akkaya, a researcher and consultant in the Clinical and Translational Musculoskeletal Imaging Research group at the University of California, San Francisco.

Hidden streaks of fat hiding between and within muscle fibers can signal serious health problems, said Akkaya, the lead author of a new study that analyzed how ultraprocessed food impacts intramuscular fat in people at risk for knee osteoporosis.

Ultraprocessed foods have been linked to weight gain and obesity and the development of chronic conditions including cancer, cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and depression. Such foods may even shorten life.

More than 50% of the calories consumed by adults in the US come from ultraprocessed foods, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In children that number rises to 62%.

A 61-year-old woman in the study also had fat marbling in her thigh muscles, but it was not as intense. About 29% of her annual diet consisted of ultraprocessed foods.

“It was especially concerning because these individuals — scanned at a time when they had no signs of knee osteoarthritis — already showed compromised muscle quality,” Akkaya said.

The link between fatty muscles and knee pain

Fat cells weaken muscles by serving as a roadblock to growth, preventing muscle fibers from properly regenerating. Weak muscles are a key driver of knee osteoarthritis, the most common form of joint disease affecting nearly 375 million people worldwide. Once known to be a disease of the elderly, one study found more than half of new cases are in people under 55 years of age, likely driven by the dramatic global rise in obesity.

El rápido aumento de los precios del petróleo elevó los costos de las empresas estadounidenses en marzo, impulsando la inflación mayorista al 4 %, la tasa anual más alta en tres años, según datos de la Oficina de Estadísticas Laborales publicados este martes.

El Índice de Precios al Productor (PPI, por sus siglas en inglés), que mide la variación promedio de los precios que reciben los productores de bienes y servicios, aumentó un 0,5 % con respecto a febrero, el mismo ritmo que el mes anterior.

Si bien la tasa anual de inflación mayorista aumentó, el PPI de marzo fue mejor de lo esperado. Los economistas estimaban que los precios mayoristas subirían un 1,1 % con respecto a febrero, lo que elevaría la tasa anual al 4,6 % desde el 3,4 %, según estimaciones de FactSet.

La guerra que se prolonga desde hace semanas en Medio Oriente ha puesto de relieve la importancia de indicadores de inflación como el PPI, que podrían indicar el profundo impacto del aumento de los costos energéticos en la economía.

Durante años, Gregg Phillips, ahora un alto funcionario de la Agencia Federal para el Manejo de Emergencias (FEMA, por sus siglas en inglés), ha contado historias que difuminan la frontera entre lo ordinario y lo sobrenatural.

Según relató una vez, su novia fallecida levantó su coche de la carretera para evitar un accidente. Satanás le habló mientras caminaba por España. Tras desmayarse en un Lowe’s de Indianápolis, recuperó la consciencia en el aparcamiento de un McDonald’s al otro lado de la calle, con 15.000 pasos registrados en su aplicación de salud, una Big Mac en el regazo y sin comprender del todo lo que acababa de suceder.

En sus relatos, que ha compartido en diversos podcasts de derecha, Phillips ha afirmado que muchas de estas experiencias ocurrieron mientras recibía tratamiento intermitente para el cáncer óseo metastásico. En lugar de someterse a quimioterapia, Phillips prefiere seguir un tratamiento autoadministrado con ivermectina y fenbendazol, antiparasitarios comúnmente utilizados para desparasitar animales.

En las últimas semanas, Phillips también ha insistido en que se teletransportó a un restaurante Waffle House en Georgia, y afirmó que de repente se encontró a unos 80 kilómetros de donde había estado momentos antes, una historia que CNN publicó inicialmente en marzo.

Esas afirmaciones están generando eco en todo el Gobierno federal.

En una breve entrevista que CNN tuvo con Donald Trump por teléfono el jueves por la mañana sobre Phillips, el presidente dijo: “¿Qué significa teletransportarse? ¿Estaba bromeando?”.

Cuando le dijeron que Phillips no estaba bromeando, Trump respondió: “No sé nada de teletransportación […] Suena un poco raro, pero no sé nada de teletransportación ni de él, pero lo averiguaré ahora mismo”.
