UC SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) - Kellan Montgomery pitched eight strong innings and Nico Libed delivered the big hit as UCSB edged UC San Diego 3-1 to pull within a game of the Tritons and Cal Poly in the Big West standings.

The Dos Pueblos High School alum Montgomery allowed just one run and four hits while striking out 9 as he improved to 6-2 on the year.

The Gauchos were trailing 1-0 but in the bottom the seventh inning Nico Libed came off the bench and delivered a two-out, 2-run pinch-hit double down the left field line to put the Gauchos in the lead for good.

From head coach Andrew Checketts: "Yeah, he looked bad on the first breaking ball, swung through it, then did a really good job of laying off some pitches and got a mistake and made the guy pay when he made the mistake. Nico, he's a really good .200 hitter. He's better than that, he puts together competitive at-bats, we felt like at that time he gave us a really good shot. We needed a hit, he pulled the gear off in the bullpen, ran down there and did his thing, so it was pretty cool."

Liam Barrett smashed a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Gauchos an insurance run.

"(Barrett) has been a breath of fresh air for us ever since we inserted him in there since he came back from injury," said Checketts. "Some other guys went down, he's done a really good job of taking quality at-bat after quality at-bat after quality at-bat and that was another example of that."

Van Froling struck out the side in the ninth inning for his second save on the year.

UCSB is now 22-11 on the season and 10-5 in the Big West as they try to chase down the Tritons and the Cal Poly Mustangs who are tied for first at 11-4 in league. The Gauchos own both tie breakers now if it comes down to that at the end of the year.

(CNN) — US President Donald Trump strongly criticized Pope Leo XIV on Truth Social on Sunday evening, claiming he is “weak on crime” and “terrible for foreign policy.”

Pope Leo XIV, the first American pope, has become increasingly vocal about the US and Israel’s war with Iran, last week condemning Trump’s rhetoric and threats against the people of Iran as “truly unacceptable.”

On Sunday evening, Trump posted a lengthy critique of the pope on Truth Social.

“Pope Leo is WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy,” Trump wrote.

“I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s okay for Iran to have a nuclear weapon. I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s terrible that America attacked Venezuela, a country that was sending massive amounts of drugs into the United States and, even worse, emptying their prisons, including murderers, drug dealers, and killers, into our country.”

“And I don’t want a Pope who criticizes the President of the United States.”

EE.UU. atacó dos presuntas embarcaciones de narcotráfico en el Pacífico oriental el sábado, matando a cinco personas, según el Comando Sur de EE.UU.

“El 11 de abril, por instrucción del comandante de #SOUTHCOM, el general Francis L.

(CNN) — Rep. Eric Swalwell said Sunday he would withdraw from the California governor’s race in the wake of allegations of sexual misconduct that led to a nearly immediate campaign collapse, as staffers quit and prominent Democratic supporters urged him to drop out.

“I am suspending my campaign for Governor,” he posted on X. “To my family, staff, friends, and supporters, I am deeply sorry for mistakes in judgment I’ve made in my past. I will fight the serious, false allegations that have been made — but that’s my fight, not a campaign’s.”

Swalwell was long considered a top contender in a wide-open field with several prominent Democrats and two Republicans ahead of the state’s June 2 nonpartisan primary. But on Friday, his campaign was roiled when CNN and the San Francisco Chronicle published reports in which women accused Swalwell of sexual misconduct.

Key allies, including campaign chair Rep. Jimmy Gomez and Sens. Ruben Gallego and Adam Schiff, pulled their support almost immediately, with new statements denouncing Swalwell arriving in rapid succession. An independent expenditure group backing him announced it would shut down.

A governor’s race that was already drawing national attention was thrown further into flux. Among the top Democrats left are billionaire Tom Steyer, former Rep. Katie Porter, former Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra and former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. Chad Bianco, the Riverside County sheriff, and Steve Hilton, a former Fox News host endorsed by President Donald Trump, are the Republican contenders.

It’s unclear whether Swalwell will remain in the US House until his term expires in January. Multiple Democrats on Sunday called on Swalwell to leave Congress.

“We should not tolerate this behavior,” Virginia Rep. Eugene Vindman told CNN on Sunday. “Rep. Eric Swalwell needs to go.”

Democratic Rep. Pramila Jayapal of Washington called on Swalwell to drop out of the California gubernatorial race, adding that she would vote to expel both him and Republican Rep. Tony Gonzales of Texas, who is under investigation by the House Ethics Committee over sexual misconduct allegations.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who had urged Swalwell to end his candidacy for governor, declined Sunday before Swalwell’s withdrawal to say whether he should resign his congressional seat, as his party hopes to retake the majority in the House after this year’s midterm elections.

“We’ll reconvene in Washington early next week and we’ll have more to say,” Jeffries told reporters during a backyard rally in Richmond on Sunday.

Four women have accused Swalwell of misconduct

CNN spoke to four women who alleged various kinds of sexual misconduct by Swalwell, ranging from inappropriate messages and pictures to unwanted kissing and touching — and in one case, rape.

A former staffer of Swalwell said the congressman raped her when she was heavily intoxicated and left her bruised and bleeding, an allegation Swalwell strongly denies.

One woman who connected online with Swalwell over her interest in Democratic politics says she ended up extremely drunk inside his hotel room after a night out with the congressman, with little memory of what occurred. Earlier in
