La Asamblea Nacional de Venezuela, controlada por el chavismo, anunció este martes el inicio de una agenda de trabajo con una parte de la oposición con el objetivo de “promover la estabilidad, la democracia y la recuperación nacional”.

El titular del Parlamento, Jorge Rodríguez, detalló que la iniciativa abarca a “exmiembros de la Asamblea Nacional del 2015-2020” y comenzará el 1 de agosto. “Solo en unión podremos avanzar en la reconstrucción y en el mantenimiento de la paz”, dijo el hermano de la presidenta encargada, Delcy Rodríguez.

El comunicado de la Asamblea fue replicado por la dirigenta opositora Dinorah Figuera, quien presidió el Parlamento elegido para ese período, el último considerado legítimo por buena parte de la comunidad internacional.

“Asumo el compromiso y la voluntad política de impulsar una hoja de ruta técnica y política bilateral, sustentada en una agenda de trabajo con objetivos y hitos concretos, que permita abordar los temas fundamentales para consolidar el camino hacia la recuperación de la democracia en Venezuela”, dijo Figuera, quien retornó a Venezuela a mediados de junio para empezar a negociar una posible transición, una iniciativa respaldada por el Gobierno de Estados Unidos.

El secretario de Estado de EE.UU., Marco Rubio, compartió en su cuenta de X el comunicado de la Asamblea, sin agregar comentarios.

El texto no menciona a la líder María Corina Machado, que cuenta con el apoyo de gran parte de la oposición, ni a Edmundo González, quien compitió en las elecciones presidenciales de 2024 y, según asegura la coalición opositora en base a las actas que recopiló, había obtenido la mayoría de los votos. Machado, quien continúa fuera del país y ha manifestado su intención de regresar, no se pronunció inmediatamente sobre el anuncio.

La Asamblea afirmó que la agenda de trabajo “tendrá como prioridad el fortalecimiento de las instituciones democráticas, del sistema electoral, y el restablecimiento de las garantías para la participación política” y apuntó que será el inicio de “una nueva etapa que dará paso a una Venezuela de progreso y libertades”.

Además, agradece al Gobierno de Estados Unidos por su respuesta tras los terremotos del 24 de junio y por “su acompañamiento a los esfuerzos orientados a la recuperación del país, la consolidación de la estabilidad y el fortalecimiento de las institucionalidad democrática de Venezuela”.

En la última década, el chavismo entabló varias instancias de diálogo que, si bien algunas llegaron a acuerdos, nunca tuvieron una implementación concreta de reformas y terminaron dando tiempo a las autoridades venezolanas hasta las siguientes elecciones. El tutelaje de EE.UU. sobre Caracas tras la captura del presidente Nicolás Maduro podría marcar un condicionamiento diferente al avance de estas negociaciones.

La exdiputada Figuera ha reconocido que existen diferencias con Machado. “Tuve una conversación y, por supuesto, tiene una visión diferente a la mía. María Corina es la líder, pero aquí estamos hablando de institucionalidad y yo soy presidente de la Asamblea Nacional”, dijo en una entrevista con el periodista Luis Olavarrieta en junio.

En esa conversación, Figuera rechazó la idea de que sea una “alacrán”, como se llama en Venezuela a políticos que se presentan como opositores pero colaboran con el chavismo. “A mí no me van a tildar de alacrán, de que soy una traidora. Soy una mujer consecuente con mi causa”, declaró.

(CNN) — After federal immigration agents fatally shot two US citizens this January, the then-secretary of the Department of Homeland Security pledged to “rapidly” deploy body cameras to officers nationally.

“As funding is available, the body camera program will be expanded nationwide,” Kristi Noem wrote on social media on February 2. “We will rapidly acquire and deploy body cameras to DHS law enforcement across the country.”

But over five months later, the distribution of those body-worn cameras is still ongoing – and notably hadn’t reached the officers involved in fatal shootings in Houston and in Maine this past week. Neither victim was the intended target of the immigrant enforcement operations, officials have said.

The lack of body cameras for these Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents raises questions as to the pace and status of that national effort. In the meantime, the lack of first-hand video from federal officers – combined with DHS’ recent history of false statements – has deepened skepticism of the government’s narrative in these fatal shootings.

“They’ve got tons of money. Why they don’t have body cams I think is a very fair question,” Sen. Angus King of Maine told CNN on Monday night. “That would resolve this kind of factual issue that we’re going to be trying to resolve over the next several weeks here in Maine.”

The shootings this week underscore the years-long push for body cameras, both from the public and the officers themselves. Spurred by the 2014 police shooting and ensuing unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, police forces across the country have adopted and mandated the use of body cameras, a move law enforcement experts say helps ensure safe and accountable policing.

“Law enforcement officers across the country tell me body cameras actually do them a service when it comes to controversial cases,” CNN senior correspondent and former FBI agent Josh Campbell said.

Federal agencies, however, have been slow to adopt such devices, and the Trump administration has reversed itself on whether they are needed.

Agents were not wearing cameras

The use of body cameras has largely garnered bipartisan agreement, particularly amid aggressive confrontations between federal agents and members of the public over the last year.

Después de la victoria de Argentina ante Suiza para su pase a semifinales, que ocurrió tras la eliminación de Noruega por parte de Inglaterra, se hizo viral un video de Erling Haaland, la estrella noruega, en la zona mixta respondiendo preguntas de los periodistas. En sus respuestas en noruego, un clip con subtítulos en español muy compartido decía que Haaland tenía “debilidad por Messi”, alentaba a Argentina contra Inglaterra y decía que ese país ocupa territorio argentino de “manera ilegítima”. Es falso.

Una sencilla transcripción y traducción con herramientas disponibles en la web y los móviles confirman que a Haaland le preguntan por su cansancio, que responde que se siente agotado y luego, en otro momento de la rueda de prensa, se refiere a su falta a Elliot Anderson (que llevó a la anulación de un gol noruego) y dice que a él lo golpearon todo el tiempo.

Medios de verificación de información como Chequeado ya han desmentido esas declaraciones y varios comentaristas en redes se han encargado de darle difusión al video con los subtítulos correctos.
