Buellton Clouds

Aside from a few passing mid and upper level clouds, beautiful Fall like weather was once again our weather story. Look for another mild to cool night with just light offshore winds for some areas. Patchy dense fog is not expected, but as is normal with weakening offshore winds, could develop for a few areas. Martin Luther King Day looks very nice with more of the same early offshore winds slowly turning onshore through the day. Expect highs to be in the upper 60's and 70's with even a few low 80's possible.

Looking ahead, high pressure will continue to weaken and retreat which will open the door to much cooler weather ahead. With the stronger onshore flow returning, patchy fog will likely return and temperatures will noticeably cool through the work week. We should see more cloud cover developing for the second half of the work week as weak high pressure keeps the Pacific storm track to our north. There is a slight chance for some very light rain late in the work week or early next weekend. Computer models show the possibility right around Friday. We will have to monitor this closely and see of something can sneak in under our weak high pressure ridge and bring some showers. Looking at the long range, forecast models see better chances for rain right around the very end of the month. We shall see how that develops and update you with as we head through next week.

Aftermath video of latest ICE shooting involving a man officials say assaulted an officer contradicts officials’ account

(CNN) — Newly obtained videos of the moments right after the Wednesday incident in which an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent shot a Venezuelan man in the leg in Minneapolis appear to contradict at least some of ICE’s claims about events leading up to the shooting.

In a statement Thursday, the Department of Homeland Security said the agent targeted, chased and then shot the man in self-defense as the agent was being “ambushed” by three people. But accounts in the videos contradict the identity of the person DHS says federal agents chased, and the details of the shooting itself.

According to DHS, federal agents were conducting a “targeted traffic stop” when, they say, Julio Sosa-Celis, an undocumented Venezuelan national, resisted arrest and started to “violently assault” one of its officers. During the struggle, DHS said in the statement, two additional people came out of a nearby apartment and attacked the officer using a snow shovel and a broom handle.

According to DHS, Sosa-Celis “got loose” and began striking an agent “with a shovel or broom stick.” DHS says the agent then “fired a defensive shot,” which hit Sosa-Celis in the leg.

The three people who allegedly assaulted the officer ran into the apartment building and barricaded themselves before agents arrested all three, DHS said.

But videos from Sosa-Celis’ family appear to tell a different story. One of them shows a video call made by Sosa-Celis’ partner and reviewed by CNN, frantically describing to family members what she says happened, according to Alicia Celis, the mother of Sosa-Celis, who spoke to CNN.

The call appears to contradict ICE’s claims in DHS’ Thursday statement. There, ICE said it was Sosa-Celis who was driving a vehicle that crashed, and Sosa-Celis who fled on foot before agents struggled

The derailment of two high-speed trains on Sunday has left at least five people dead and 25 seriously injured in southern Spain’s Adamuz municipality, near Córdoba, according to the Andalusian Regional Government’s emergency services.

The accident occurred when a high-speed train traveling from Malaga to Madrid derailed at the entrance to Adamuz and crossed onto the adjacent track, on which another train traveling from Madrid to Huelva was running. This caused the second train to also derail, said the Railway Infrastructure Administrator (Adif), the public manager of the railway network.

The first train to derail was the Iryo 6189, which was carrying approximately 300 people, the operating company said in a statement.

Iryo expressed regret for the incident. It announced that it had activated emergency protocols and was working with authorities to manage the situation.

High-speed rail service between Madrid and Andalusia is suspended, and trains traveling on the Seville-Madrid line are being redirected to their point of origin, according to Adif.

Staff from the railway operator are working in the area in coordination with emergency services and railway companies.

Commercial services between Madrid, Toledo, Ciudad Real and Puertollano are operating normally.

The regional government of Andalusia has activated the emergency phase of the Civil Protection Plan due to the train accident, the regional government said on social media.
