SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) - The 2026 annual waterfront permits are now on sale in Santa Barbara.

The artwork features a Great White Shark chosen by the public through a social media survey.

The sea lion was favored by 20 percent of those responding and the shark was 22 percent making it the majority.

The permits are valid from the day of purchase. Those who have purchased the passes this month have had an added savings for the coming year. In some cases 13 months.

The cost is $145.00 each.

They are available on line or in person at the Waterfront Department office in the harbor.

This Sunday for the 31st year, the Santa Barbara Eyeglass Factory is hosting its Kids Day.
All children 18 and under with their parent or guardian will be able to get a free eye exam along with a free pair of glasses.
The store has stocked up on special frames and styles the children will be able to choose from.
They include some of the trendy and fashionable looks the kids like.
For the owners this is a commitment to make sure all kids can see well for school, home and leisure activities.

Gregg Feldman is the The Eyeglass Factory President and gives credit to his dad Rick who started the program more than three decades ago.

He enjoys describing the reaction from children when they get their glasses. "The ones that get the most satisfaction when they put on glasses and they literally don't know what they have been missing and they needed glasses. Their face brightens up and they see the difference literally. "

He says they have enjoyed their relationship with the customers and neighbors where they have stores. "We love to give back and give the kids what they really need."

The kids day will take place only at the Eyeglass Factory store on Milpas Street in Santa Barbara.
.It will take place from 9 a.m. To 2 p.m. Extra staff will be on hand to process all the orders for the children.
Parents can also check out the many choices of glasses for themselves, but this holiday special is just for the kids.

Personal estadounidense abordó e incautó un buque frente a las costas de Venezuela, según un funcionario familiarizado con el asunto, en un momento en que el Gobierno de Donald Trump intensifica la presión sobre Caracas.

La operación fue dirigida por la Guardia Costera de Estados Unidos, con la ayuda de las Fuerzas Armadas estadounidenses. Se llevó a cabo en aguas internacionales, según el funcionario.

Es el segundo caso conocido de una incautación de un buque cerca de Venezuela por parte de Estados Unidos en las últimas dos semanas. El 10 de diciembre, Estados Unidos incautó un gran petrolero llamado Skipper, que había sido sancionado por sus vínculos con Irán.

(CNN) — Personnel from the United States boarded and seized a vessel off the coast of Venezuela, according to an official familiar with the matter, as the Trump administration ramps up pressure on Caracas.

The operation was led by the US Coast Guard, with assistance from the US military. It occurred in international waters, the official said.

It was the second known instance of the US interdicting a vessel near Venezuela in the last two weeks. The US seized a large oil tanker called the Skipper, which had been under sanctions for its ties to Iran, on December 10.

President Donald Trump said afterward the US would continue to go after vessels transporting Venezuelan oil. And he announced this week a “blockade” of sanctioned oil tankers going in and out of the country.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether the vessel seized Saturday was under sanctions.

The Coast Guard referred questions on the operation to the White House, which did not respond to a request for comment.

Combined with Trump’s threats of land strikes on Venezuelan soil, the seizures of vessels have ratcheted up pressure on Caracas by going after its economic lifeline, which had already come under strain after new sanctions on the oil sector earlier this year.

The US is now months into its pressure campaign on Venezuela that has included moving thousands of troops and a carrier strike group into the Caribbean, strikes on suspected drug boats and repeated threats against President Nicolás Maduro.

The US military has killed 104 people in strikes that have destroyed 29 alleged drug boats, attacks that the Trump administration has sold as an effort to crack down on illegal flows of drugs and migrants from Venezuela. But its actions have also pointed to a sweeping pressure campaign on Maduro — whose ouster White House chief of staff Susie Wiles has suggested is the administration’s real goal.
