SpaceX canceló este jueves el lanzamiento de su megacohete Starship desde la base de la compañía en Texas, Starbase.

En un movimiento raro e inusual, el lanzamiento del cohete —denominado como el más poderoso jamás construido— se canceló justo cuando el Super Heavy comenzaba a encender sus 33 motores.

SpaceX llegó muy tarde a la cuenta regresiva en la que se esperaba que los 33 motores del propulsor del cohete Super Heavy se encendieran, y, una vez encendidos, SpaceX tiene que activar su sistema de inundación de agua, que rocía la plataforma de lanzamiento con cientos de miles de galones de agua en solo unos momentos para proteger la infraestructura vital del resplandor del despegue.

(CNN) — As Maine Democrats prepare to replace Graham Platner as their Senate nominee, eight candidates pitched themselves as best prepared to take on Republican Sen. Susan Collins over two hours of debates Thursday night.

The first hour featured four candidates who were on the primary ballot in different races this year. All lost — but all earned at least 20% of the vote in their contests.

Former public health official Nirav Shah pointed to his performance in the gubernatorial primary (he earned the most first-place votes, but finished second once ranked-choice votes were tabulated). Former Maine Senate President Troy Jackson touted his state-level accomplishments. Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows highlighted her attempt to disqualify President Donald Trump from the 2024 ballot. Former Capitol Hill staffer Jordan Wood said he’d be best able to separate himself politically from Platner.

The second hour was an undercard of sorts, with four lesser-known candidates looking to break through in the abbreviated race. Among them was Dan Kleban, the Maine Beer Company founder who last year entered the Senate race, but ended his campaign after Democratic Gov. Janet Mills jumped in with the party establishment’s support. Mills would ultimately suspend her campaign in April as she trailed Platner in the polls.

“I think people are sick and tired of career politicians,” Kleban said as he sought to vault into the top tier of Democrats in the race.

The debate laid bare the reality of how difficult replacing Platner and mounting a serious challenge against Collins will be. None of the candidates in Thursday night’s debate could replicate the political skills that allowed Platner to emerge as a viral sensation, elbow a two-term governor out of the race and poll neck-and-neck with Collins before he ended his campaign after a woman accused him of rape – allegations he has denied. Shah’s delivery was one-note and Bellows’ was halting. Wood often turned to his notes. Jackson frequently cleared his throat and changed directions mid-sentence.

It all comes ahead of a July 25 convention at which Maine Democrats will select Platner’s replacement on the ballot. The candidates are making their cases to an extremely small audience: The nominee will be chosen at a convention of 601 delegates, including 101 members of the Democratic State Committee and 500 chosen from the state’s 16 counties in local meetings this weekend.

Platner’s shadow

A political certainty in the lead-up to November is that Republicans will seek to tie the Democratic Senate nominee to Platner. Those vying for the nomination Thursday night did little to discourage that comparison as they touted their progressive bona fides.

Wood noted that, as he campaigned for the Senate nomination last fall before switching to a House bid, he’d been quick to call for Platner to drop out of the race amid earlier controversies. But none of the major candidates recounted the details of the allegations he faced, and all eagerly embraced some of Platner’s political positions when asked by the moderators what they would take forward from his campaign.

Jackson said that like Platner, he supports Medicare for All. Shah said that he also supports abolishing US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Wood said Platner was right to call Israel’s actions in Gaza a genocide, and said that “it is so important in these moments to draw those moral lines.” And Bellows said Platner was right to say

(CNN) — President Donald Trump in his primetime speech on Thursday is alleging vulnerabilities exist in American election systems, using a large trove of newly declassified documents as evidence to suggest future elections could be at risk of foreign interference, particularly by China.

Though the documents are newly declassified, they largely discuss vulnerabilities that have been known for years and election officials around the country have tried to address.

None of the declassified information supports the claim that any previous election results — including the 2020 presidential contest that Trump lost — were manipulated by foreign interference or fraud in a way that would’ve changed the outcome.

Instead, White House officials have framed the disclosures not as an attempt to re-litigate past elections, but rather as an attempt to correct vulnerabilities ahead of November’s midterm elections. That’s despite the fact that the second Trump administration has shuttered many federal organizations that were tracking and publicizing foreign influence campaigns.

And White House officials suggested the information, some of which has been known for years, was withheld from senior top elected US officials, including Trump, for political purposes.

Among the points Trump plans to discuss:

– Claims that there are major vulnerabilities with US voting machines

– Claims that China has obtained voter data on millions of Americans

– Claims about systemic voter registration fraud by Democrats in Michigan

– Claims there are far more non-citizens on voter rolls than known before

There are indeed some new revelations in the hundreds of pages of documents declassified Thursday. But it appears, based on CNN’s review, that a decent chunk of the documents rehash information that has already been public and widely understood in the US intelligence community.

The documents are part of an attempt by the Trump administration to make the case that foreign countries are aggressively interfering with US elections. It’s worth noting that Trump has spent nearly a decade denying the unanimous conclusions from many of these same intelligence agencies that Russia meddled in the 2016 election.

CNN is reviewing the hundreds of documents that were declassified by the Trump administration and released Thursday night. Here is a breakdown of the main findings.

Claims about vulnerabilities with US voting machines

The White House has declassified intelligence reports saying that American voting machines are hackable by at least five foreign powers.

One National Intelligence Council report from January 2020 offered the concerning conclusion that Russia, China, Iran and North Korea “have the capability to access and potentially manipulate” US election data, like centralized voter registration databases and pollbooks.

However, the report noted that, because US elections are decentralized and run by states and counties, any breaches would likely be localized and it “would be difficult to manipulate on a wide enough scale to alter the election outcome.”

The White House also said the documents show that Venezuela conducted an experiment on voting machines that swapped out votes in a way that was undetectable in a post-vote audit or a hand count.

The machines were made by Smartmatic, a company that Trump allies have falsely accuses of rigging the 2020 US election, largely because of its past ties to Venezuela.

A declassified CIA memo from June said the US intelligence community determined in 2006 that Venezuela and Smartmatic didn’t have the capability “to manipulate the outcome of elections outside Venezuela.”

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) - You can't talk about Santa Barbara without talking about State Street. It runs through the center of town and for the last six years it has been going through a transition. For some its taken too long, and for others it's been painful.

It's one of the most beautiful downtown streets any city could wish for.

But the roadmap ahead since the closure of State Street to cars during the pandemic has been very bumpy on top of other on going economic factors such as high rents and on line shopping trends.

Santa Barbara Mayor Randy Rowse growled at a recent hours-long council meeting – saying, " it doesn't take a lot of studies. It doesn't take another consultant. Just go for a walk. It's not happening out there, but it can happen but we equivocate and have done nothing for all these years."

Mayor Rowse can't believe since the pandemic more revitalization hasn't happened. He has been counting off the "missed" summers for several years without seeing the flow of people that used to come through.

Rowse stood on the street during a recent weekday morning and said, "why can't we just open the street, clean it and light it and bring it back to life and the bring back the activity again and then we can work on the master plan incrementally."

The Master Plan has been months in the design, with city staff members putting in countless hours, listening to consultants, looking at drawings, hearing curb-to-curb conflicting solutions and now it is time to hit the asphalt with something that's expected to be workable and flexible.

City Master Planner Tess Harris, has brought countless groups together and a focused team of influencial business and community leaders to be part of the turning point ideas and vision for the future. The design has had to balance the city's historic image and meet the needs of the current and future uses from the public.

That includes how they move about, park, use shuttle transit, dine in or out and get to shopping locations. The shared space is not always easy to navigate. The framework was built over 100 years ago and has been preserved by many community design rules and oversight boards.

The draft plan was recently presented during a lengthy council meeting. It has mostly favorable reviews. The cost was estimated to be millions of dollars per block from Gutierrez Street to Sola Street.

Robin Elander is the Executive Director of the Downtown Santa Barbara Improvement Association. She says there are 1,500 businesses in that area including the side streets bordered by Chapala St. and Anacapa St.

Elander recently told the city the time has come to move forward with a plan and find common ground on changes now with room to try out new ideas in the months ahead.

"It is all about coming together to create a robust management and operations plan that stands the test of time for downtown," she said.

The cry from the public and business owners has been loud and conflicted over the ongoing timeline in recent years while the future is studied.

Costs for consultants and trial ideas like a specially designed walkway on both sides of the 500 block added to green bike lane paint have exceeded $1 million dollars and cause taxpayers to bristle at the unclear results. The city is also in a financial squeeze and lower than normal reserves.

Councilmember Eric Friedman walked door to door to talk to business owners. He says some are on the verge of closing down. "They are worried that

LOS OSOS, Calif. (KEYT) – On Thursday, 22-year-old Wayland Stronglee of Los Osos was arrested as part of an ongoing sexual assault investigation involving a minor he met online.

On July 16, a search warrant was served in the 2100 block of Fresno Street in Los Osos and, during the search, the 22-year-old Los Osos man was taken into custody and booked on charges of rape by force and unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor stated a press release from the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office.

According to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office, investigators have determined that Stronglee met the sexual assault survivor through social media before the alleged crime occurred.

Detectives are now turning to the public for help investigating Stronglee and believe there are more survivors that have yet to come forward the local sheriff's office shared with Your News Channel.
