(CNN) — President Donald Trump said Wednesday that Iran has released an American woman who he said had been wrongfully detained in the country since December 2024 – as the US military continues to strike Iran.

“She is now safely outside of Iran, and in good condition. The United States of America appreciates this gesture of Goodwill by Iran!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Trump did not identify the person or provide additional details about the circumstances of her release. CNN has reached out to the White House and the Office of the Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs.

The woman was later identified by her attorney as Dena Karari.

Karari was detained, charged and released on bail with an exit ban that blocked her from leaving Iran, a source familiar told CNN.

Karari’s lawyer, Jared Genser, wrote in a post on X, “I am delighted and excited to report that my client U.S. citizen #DenaKarari, who had been trapped in #Iran since December 2024 on bogus charges is now free.”

He thanked Trump and said Karari “is now safe and traveling back to the United States.”

Genser told CNN that Karari had been subjected to “a coercive exit ban” and had been targeted because she operated “a non-profit called the Children of Mehr Foundation, which helped impoverished children in Iran with private donor support and authorization of an OFAC license.”

While she was never physically detained, Genser said, “she suffered enormous physical and psychological hardship” and had been interrogated dozens of times by Iranian authorities.

“I expect that Dena will have more to say in the coming days, but for now she needs to rest and recuperate,” he said. “We urge Iran to drop all the remaining charges against those who worked locally in support of the Children of Mehr Foundation, who are innocent and committed no crimes. And I personally call on Iran to release both all wrongly imprisoned Americans and those subjected to coercive exit bans and all Iranian political prisoners.”

As of last month, the US government was tracking at least six Americans detained in Iran, a US official said, including two who had been designated as wrongfully detained.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) -  A special traveling exhibit with displays and video about the American Revolution is at the main Santa Barbara Library this week.

The American Revolution Experience is an outreach effort to bring a more personal side to this time period in American history.

The exhibit was created by the American Battlefield Trust and the Santa Barbara Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution are serving as docents.

It's located inside the library on the first floor by the large fireplace.

The exhibit helps those who are looking for more details on the people in the American Revolution including soldier, wives, children, slaves and representatives from different countries in the original colonies.

Jane Frederick is the Santa Barbara Chapter President with the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She was at the library with DAR members dressed in period outfits, interacting with the public and answering questions.

The made a request for this exhibit 18 months ago. It is one of four traveling through the United States right now.

"This exhibit is trying to highlight the diversity of elements and people who contributed to the revolution because without them it would not have succeeded," said Frederick. "What we would like to do certainly is introduce ourselves as aligned with this particular understanding of the revolution and the movement itself. It was very diverse."

This exhibit has short stories and personal accounts from historical figures you may have learned about and those who played key roles in other significant ways.

The exhibit will be on display until Friday at closing in the library.

Kraig Pakulski 0 49 Article rating: No rating

Marcó a ambos países.

Red Flag Warnings Activate No Parking Rule in Mission Canyon

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT ) - With the high heat and a red flag alert from the National Weather Service comes a special notice to drivers in one area just above the City of Santa Barbara in the foothills.

In Mission Canyon, on Tunnel Road up to a popular hiking trail, you will see warning signs.

They alert drivers to 'no parking' zones during a red flag high fire emergency, like the one declared today and tomorrow.

When that happens cars parking on the side of the road where hikers like to start their walks, are in violation.

Some of the hikers we ran in to said they did not know what a red flag warning meant, especially when it comes to parking.

The policy was put in to place after the 2009 Jesusita fire, which ripped through the area and destroyed 80 homes.

Property owners do not want to be evacuating at the same time hikers and their vehicles are also leaving the area.

Colin Martz, a hiker coming down Tunnel Trail Wednesday morning, said, "I was looking to see where the no parking signs were but the zones were kind of confusing. I saw that this was maybe less no parking signs."

An L.A. resident visiting the area, Monica Villegas found the trail on a Google search, drove up, parked and went for a walk.

"It's my first time here. I did notice the sign at the gate but I'm already in here. I'm too committed."

The California Highway Patrol has been patrolling in the area and is responsible for enforcement, ticketing and towing if necessary.

Also in the area is the Botanic Gardens and it has a policy to close on red flag days.

A sign about that is out at the base of the road as well for drivers headed that way.

Kraig Pakulski 0 40 Article rating: No rating
