(CNN) — A federal judge tore into the Department of Defense on Thursday for attempting an end-run around his decision voiding parts of a restrictive press policy rolled out by Secretary Pete Hegseth last year, saying the Pentagon had flouted his ruling when it quickly implemented a tighter policy.

“The Department cannot simply reinstate an unlawful policy under the guise of taking ‘new’ action and expect the court to look the other way,” US District Judge Paul Friedman wrote in a stinging ruling in a case brought by The New York Times.

Under the new policy, Friedman said, the Pentagon “has invoked slightly different language” but is still violating the constitutional rights of national security reporters who have long been granted access to the department’s sprawling headquarters in Northern Virginia.

“The curtailment of First Amendment rights is dangerous at any time, and even more so in a time of war,” the appointee of former President Bill Clinton wrote. “Suppression of political speech is the mark of an autocracy, not a democracy — as the Framers recognized when they drafted the First Amendment.”

The judge said officials at the Pentagon cannot enforce the new policy against several Pentagon reporters at the newspaper and ordered it to take steps to restore their physical access to the building.

System #2 will bring half inch or more with rainfall rates strong enough to cause local flooding.

Snow levels are staying above 7000 ft.

Warm and dry weather returns by Tuesday, back into the low 70s.

La Asamblea Nacional de Venezuela aprobó este jueves una nueva Ley Orgánica de Minas que busca abrir el sector a empresas nacionales y extranjeras, luego de que Estados Unidos expresara interés en que compañías estadounidenses puedan invertir en el país sudamericano.

El Parlamento, con mayoría del oficialista Partido Socialista Unido de Venezuela (PSUV), avaló la norma en segunda discusión después de que el tema se fue postergando durante las últimas semanas por desacuerdos sobre la redacción de algunos artículos.

La nueva ley incluye puntos como mantener la propiedad del Estado sobre los yacimientos mineros y permitir que las empresas que inviertan recurran a mecanismos independientes para solucionar controversias, de acuerdo con la agencia AP.

El diputado Orlando Camacho, uno de los principales promotores del proyecto, dijo el miércoles en su cuenta de Instagram que algunos de los principales objetivos de esta norma son “atraer capital nacional y extranjero con seguridad jurídica” y “actualizar el marco legal para los retos actuales del país”.

Desde Estados Unidos, el Gobierno del presidente Donald Trump se había mostrado interesado en que la presidenta encargada de Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, impulsara reformas en el sector minero similares a las que propuso en el área de hidrocarburos.

El 29 de enero, la Asamblea Nacional de Venezuela aprobó una reforma a la Ley Orgánica de Hidrocarburos, promovida por Rodríguez, con la que se facilita la inversión de empresas extranjeras en la industria petrolera venezolana.

Desde que asumió como presidenta encargada a principios de enero, luego del operativo militar en el que Estados Unidos capturó en Caracas al derrocado presidente Nicolás Maduro, Rodríguez ha dicho que está dispuesta a mantener una nueva relación de cooperación y de respeto con Estados Unidos.

A lo largo de los últimos tres meses, Rodríguez ha recibido en Venezuela a algunos altos funcionarios del Gobierno de Trump, como el secretario de Energía, Chris Wright, y el secretario del Interior, Doug Burgum.

El 5 de marzo, los gobiernos de Venezuela y de Estados Unidos anunciaron el restablecimiento de sus relaciones diplomáticas y consulares, que estaban rotas desde 2019, durante la primera presidencia de Trump (2017-2021).
