When Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced on July 15 that the military will start screening service members for low testosterone, he framed it as a way to keep troops “strong, resilient, and capable.” Under the new plan, active-duty, National Guard, and Reserve members aged 30 and older will be tested annually as part of their health assessments, while younger troops can opt into testing.

Data suggests troops may support the idea: In a 2022 Hone Health survey of 400 veterans and active service members diagnosed with low testosterone, 86% said they thought the military should do testing to establish baseline hormone levels.

Medical guidelines generally advise against routine testosterone testing in the general male population, but service members are not an average-risk population. Military service exposes men to a combination of factors that are each independently linked to low testosterone.

“Military service creates a perfect storm for testosterone suppression,” says Joshua Calvert, M.D., a urologist who routinely treats veterans in his Nashville practice. “These men aren’t dealing with one risk factor. They’re stacking chronic sleep deprivation, repeated physical stress, psychological stress, and sometimes brain injury — all of which can affect the hormone system.”

The Pentagon’s new policy would raise awareness about testosterone levels while troops are serving — and could become even more valuable after discharge.

“If you want to understand how military service changes a man’s body over time,” Calvert says, “testosterone is one of the most informative biomarkers we have.”

(CNN) — The White House is working to quickly upgrade the Qatari-donated jet that has newly started serving as Air Force One, a development that comes after administration officials internally discussed the need for President Donald Trump to avoid flying it in high-threat areas, according to two sources familiar with the matter.

The extent of the required upgrades, which will be made later this fall, remains unclear. But the two sources said that before Trump traveled on the jet to Turkey earlier this month, officials had discussed the president not traveling on the newly refurbished jet to areas that could pose a higher risk to him, specifically Israel, amid the monthslong war with Iran.

Trump, who has lavished praise on the retrofitted plane, nevertheless flew it to Turkey earlier this month after an initial assessment by top officials deemed it safe, the sources said.

Officials later realized that clearing it for use on that trip was a mistake, one of the sources said. The other source noted that security assessments frequently change.

Trump has appeared to publicly acknowledge that the plane needs additional security enhancements, telling reporters Sunday that it would soon be “maxed out.” He added that it would “take about a month” to make the planned changes — a timeline experts say isn’t enough to make significant improvements.

When he left Turkey, Trump opted to take the older presidential plane rather than the newer jet, spurring scrutiny of its security deficiencies. Trump insisted at the time that the swap was so US service members at a UK air base could see the plane, not due to a lack of security measures. But two sources familiar with the matter previously told CNN the newer plane did not possess the same capabilities to ensure the president’s safety in international settings.

The subsequent reporting on safety concerns regarding the plane infuriated the president, spurring an extraordinary leak investigation that included subpoenaing the New York Times reporters who first reported on the issue. Officials at the White House has were also asked to turn over their phones as part of the probe.

On Monday, press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that the new jet was slated to undergo more work, even as she maintained that it was “perfectly safe.”

“The new Air Force One is perfectly safe for the President’s travels, but will receive additional upgrades and enhancements in the fall which will take approximately one month to complete,” she said in a statement.

Trump is still expected to use the jet for domestic trips — and potentially even some international travel — before the upgrades, one of the sources familiar with the matter said, citing assessments that deemed it safe to take to low-risk destinations. That could include flying it to Ireland, where he’s considering a visit in September.

Trump has also suggested he could take the new jet to China later this year, amid discussions about a meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinpi

CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA) – Sin importar el clima extremo, que fue fin de semana y que sea responsabilidad de la ciudad, residentes e integrantes de “Clean Calexico” acudieron algunos desde las 5 de la mañana para limpiar las calles del centro de Calexico, donde se observaba acumulación de basura, desechos además de ramas y arboles en mal estado.

Fue a través de redes sociales, como la agrupación integrada por Carlos Fonseca, Eugenio Ramos y Javier González acudió acompañados en esta ocasión y tras un reto, por el alcalde Víctor Legaspí, quien señaló no existe una división entre miembros del concilio y voluntarios a pesar de los desencuentros registrados en días pasados por su iniciativa.

“Creo que todos queremos un Caléxico limpio, y pues es una meta que se puede cumplir nomás es ahorita estamos trabajando y esperemos que el GOB local también ya lo implemente y sería algo beneficiario para todos” dijo Eugenio Ramos.

Algunos de los residentes acudieron por primera ocasión a la limpieza, motivados por la necesidad de una mejor ciudad, además de que este punto de la ciudad, representa uno de los en peores condiciones se encuentran, voluntarios enfrentaron diversas dificultades durante su labor, principalmente por la falta de botes de basura, por lo que en al menos tres ocasiones un vehículo fue el encargado de llevar los desechos directamente al punto de deposito de basura.

(CNN) — President Donald Trump is invoking a 1930 trade law to impose whopping 50% tariffs on certain Canadian goods. The move threatens a broader trade war with the United States’ second-top trading partner.

The impacted Canadian goods range from electric equipment, such as refrigeration, to machinery, according to annexes of three proclamations Trump signed on Monday. The tariffs wouldn’t take effect for 30 days.

Trump cited Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930, a law that allows a president to tariff goods up to 50% without congressional approval when a country is believed to be discriminating against American goods. However, the law has never been applied this way.

Last week, Trump threatened higher tariffs on Canadian goods to punish the country for the impact its wildfires have had on Americans in recent days. However, a senior administration official told reporters on Monday that this action was unrelated. “The president has other options on that,” the official said.

Rather, the latest tranche of tariffs was related to alleged discriminatory treatment of American motor vehicles, alcohol and dairy.
