Las Fuerzas Armadas de Estados Unidos realizaron un ataque contra otra presunta embarcación de narcotráfico en el océano Pacífico oriental este jueves, en el que murieron dos personas, según el Comando Sur de EE.UU.

“El 5 de febrero, por orden del comandante del Comando Sur, general Francis L. Donovan, la Fuerza de Tarea Conjunta Southern Spear llevó a cabo un ataque letal contra una embarcación operada por organizaciones designadas como terroristas”, informó el Comando Sur en X, y agregó que ningún militar estadounidense resultó herido en la operación.

Donovan asumió el mando del Comando Sur este jueves.

Al menos 119 personas han muerto en ataques a embarcaciones sospechosas de narcotráfico como parte de la campaña denominada Operación Southern Spear, que el Gobierno de Trump afirma busca frenar el tráfico de narcóticos.

Este ataque es el segundo conocido del año. El otro, en enero, dejó dos muertos y un sobreviviente.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) - After a ribbon cutting and open house on Monday, the new McHurley Film Center in Santa Barbara is fully open and already very busy.

The center was finished just in time for the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, which has about 25 movies a day at the state street location in the heart of downtown.

Film fans were in all of the five theatres starting as early as 8:00am, followed by a rotating lineup of films throughout the day.

As the first ones came out we got their initial reviews.

Mary Anne Contreras was with her friends that are the "Breakfast Club" of early film fans.

"So impressed. It smells good. It looks good. It feels good. I'm happy. Amazing. It was better than what's happening at the Riviera (theatre), and I thought it was noticeably incredible."

With her Marla Phillips said, "the sound quality is fantastic. It's really good and that's a 4k. I think that's a 4k screen. It's great about the seats, really comfortable."

It checked every box for Rendy Freedman. "Because of the sound, the seats and the screen. It was amazing and the popcorn!"

Outside of the Film Center is a large board showing the daily lineup of movies and special tributes. There are also special line up locations for each of the five theatres and for pass holders to keep everything orderly as people come and go.

After the festival the film center will have a variety of films showing year-round including documentaries, international movies, and family friendly films.

El viceministro de Relaciones Exteriores de Cuba, Carlos Fernández de Cossío, calificó de “hipócrita” el anuncio del Gobierno de Estados Unidos sobre el envío de ayuda humanitaria a la isla, que enfrenta problemas de abasto de energía eléctrica en medio de las presiones de Washington sobre los envíos de petróleo hacia el país.

“Bastante hipócrita aplicar medidas coercitivas draconianas que niegan condiciones económicas básicas a millones y luego anunciar sopa y latas de comida para unos pocos”, escribió este jueves Fernández de Cossío en su cuenta de X.

Las declaraciones del viceministro de Relaciones Exteriores cubano se producen después de que el Departamento de Estado de EE.UU. anunciara el envío de una partida adicional de US$ 6 millones en ayuda humanitaria para Cuba.

El subsecretario de Estado interino para Asistencia Exterior, Asuntos Humanitarios y Libertad Religiosa, Jeremy Lewin, rechazó la idea de que las restricciones estadounidenses al petróleo en Cuba estuvieran amplificando la necesidad de ayuda humanitaria. El funcionario argumentó que la isla todavía estaba afectada por el huracán Melissa y que el petróleo estaba siendo “acumulado por el monopolio estatal” y el “servicio de seguridad”.

“La idea de que algún cambio en las últimas semanas sobre el petróleo sea responsable de lo que está ocurriendo en Cuba simplemente no es cierta”, dijo.

Lewin dijo que la asistencia sería utilizable incluso durante la escasez de combustible. Explicó que incluía “atún enlatado, arroz, frijoles, pasta, cosas así, necesidades básicas, pequeñas lámparas solares que también permiten cargar tu teléfono, kits de higiene, cosas básicas como esas”.

Además, Estados Unidos no solo impidió la llegada de petróleo venezolano a la isla, sino que también amenazó con imponer aranceles a cualquier país que suministre crudo a Cuba, una medida que ha afectado particularmente los envíos desde México, el segundo mayor proveedor de petróleo del país caribeño.

(CNN) — As Nancy Guthrie’s family desperately pleads for her safe return, investigators announced Thursday they believe she is still alive – though they have no idea who may have taken her against her will.

It has been five days since Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of “Today” host Savannah Guthrie, was apparently kidnapped, disappearing from her secluded Arizona home without her phone or critical medications.

Federal and local investigators have spent days working to recover video footage, analyze DNA and authenticate several potential ransom notes, but have so far received no “proof of life” or identified a suspect – even after Guthrie’s children shared a passionate public appeal to possible captors.

The FBI on Thursday announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to Guthrie’s recovery or an arrest and conviction in her disappearance.

Here is what we know about how the disappearance and investigation have played out.

A Saturday evening supper

Nancy Guthrie was last seen by her family the evening before her disappearance, when she joined relatives for dinner and game night near her Tucson-area home.

Guthrie took an Uber to her daughter Annie’s home around 5:32 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said. He said detectives have since interviewed the Uber driver, who the sheriff said is not under suspicion. The driver has been “very open” and shared video of Guthrie from inside their car, he added.

After dinner, family members dropped Guthrie back at her home, which lies in a secluded, cactus-dotted community in the Catalina Foothills.

Guthrie’s garage door opened at approximately 9:48 p.m. and closed at 9:50 p.m., the sheriff said.

“It is that time we assume that Nancy’s home and probably going to bed,” Nanos added.

A series of unusual overnight events

What happened in the late-night hours between Guthrie’s return home and her disappearance remains shrouded in mystery. But a few small pieces of evidence may offer insight into when she may have been taken.

At 1:47 a.m. Sunday, a few hours after Guthrie is believed to have come home, her doorbell camera was disconnected, according to Nanos. Though he confirmed it was removed, he said “we’re not confirming that any cameras were smashed or destroyed around the house.”
