(CNN) — The Trump administration’s efforts to investigate Renee Good and others around her, and not the ICE officer who shot her in Minneapolis, is wreaking havoc on the US attorney’s office in Minnesota, which is leading the probe.

At least half a dozen federal prosecutors in Minnesota resigned amid growing tensions between state and federal officials since the shooting on Wednesday, a source familiar with the matter told CNN. The Trump administration quickly declared that the agent, Jonathan Ross, acted appropriately and alleged that responsibility for the fatal shooting lay with Good and those around her.

“There is currently no basis for a criminal civil rights investigation,” Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a statement to CNN Tuesday in the clearest indication so far that federal investigators aren’t examining the conduct of the ICE officer, while at the same time blocking local authorities from using their jurisdiction to investigate the shooting.

Among the Minnesota prosecutors who resigned is Joseph Thompson, the second-in-charge at the US attorney’s office, two sources familiar with the matter told CNN. Harry Jacobs, a senior prosecutor who together with Thompson lead the Justice Department’s yearslong effort to tackle social services fraud in Minnesota, also resigned.

Federal prosecutors in Minneapolis initially struck an agreement with local prosecutors and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to jointly investigate the shooting, a routine arrangement that typically follows federal officer-involved shooting incidents. Minnesota authorities said they were later informed by the FBI that the US attorney’s office had ordered federal agents to conduct the investigation alone, without the involvement of local authorities.

That decision came from Washington, the source said. At the same time, lawyers in the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division were told that they would not be assisting in the probe into the shooting, another person familiar with the matter told CNN.

In the past, the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division has typically launched investigations into law enforcement related shootings, instances of potential police brutality or potential hate crimes to make sure that the officers did not breach the rights of a victim — even if that investigation never results in charges. Departing from that tradition is highly unusual.

CNN previously reported the decision to block local investigators from the probe was prompted by distrust among federal officials in Washington that the local officials could be trusted with information about the case. Vice President JD Vance told reporters that there were concerns about leaks and that the ICE agents involved would be doxxed, or have their personal information released to the public.

The investigation has been marked by other unusual moves that were a sharp departure from how FBI investigations typically run.

Video from the cellphone of the officer who fired the shots, a key piece of evidence, became public through a conservative Minnesota media outlet. President Donald Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem have publicly declared the officer’s actions as justified and placed blame on Good and others.

Minnesota authorities have appealed to the public to provide state investigators with all video and other information to assist their review of the incident. But local prosecutors are hobbled by the federal block on access to evidence the FBI collected in the case.

They have no access to Good’s vehicle, shell casings recovered from the scene, or any of the investigation, Mary Moriarty, the Hennepin County attorney, said in an interview with CNN’s Kasie Hunt.

Nikki Glaser’s cut Golden Globes jokes are savage works of art

(CNN) — Nikki Glaser isn’t done taking jabs at the celebrities who were at the 2026 Golden Globes.

The comedian returned to host the event on Sunday night for the second time, kicking off the show with an opening monologue full of enough zingers for a celebrity roast. But there were several jokes that, naturally, fell onto the cutting room floor.

Glaser fired off a few of those cut jokes while appearing on “The Howard Stern Show” on Tuesday, and nobody was safe, including everyone from Julia Roberts to Jeff Goldblum. She also had a bunch more leveled at Sean Penn.

Here are some of Glaser’s spicier jokes that got cut:

  • “Sean Penn is nominated tonight, I’m assuming for best neck veins?”
  • “Leo (DiCaprio), why are you always squinting? I mean, I assume it’s to read your girlfriend’s ID. Just making sure that the year starts with a 2.”
  • “Julia Roberts is nominated for ‘After The Hunt.’ I don’t know what it’s about but I’m assuming the hunt was to find someone who’s seen it?”
  • “Jonathan Bailey is here. Jonathan is the first openly gay man to be named the ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ by People Magazine and at first I was like, ‘Do we really need to say openly?’ and then I looked at a list of past winners and I was like, ‘Oh yeah, we do.’”
  • “Jeff Goldblum is here tonight, not because he is nominated. Just because they were shooting an ad for Apartments.com down the street and he just kind of wandered in. Jeff doing ads for Apartments.com is hilarious. You haven’t lived in apartments since you were a fly.”
  • “’One Battle After Another’ had so many incredible performances. Chase Infiniti is nominated for best actress tonight and Chase Infiniti is her real name. And this is true; if you apply now, you can earn 5% cash back on all travel booked through her through the end of the year, so get on that. It is a great deal.”
  • “‘Pluribus’ is nominated. Did you guys know that Pluribus is Latin for I haven’t seen it?”
  • “I just saw Sean Penn and maybe he’s taking ‘The Substance’ wrong?”

Combining small changes in diet, exercise and sleep may extend life

(CNN) — Small changes in diet, exercise and sleep may extend life by a year when put into practice together, while making larger changes could provide more than nine additional years of life, according to a new study.

Combining changes in diet, sleep and exercise also increased “health span,” or the number of years a person may live without major health complaints.

“These findings highlight the importance of considering lifestyle behaviors as a package rather than in isolation,” said lead study author Nick Koemel, a research fellow in physical activity, lifestyle and population health at the University of Syndey’s main campus in Camperdown, Australia.

“By targeting small improvements across multiple behaviors simultaneously, the required change for any single behavior is substantially reduced, which may help overcome common barriers to long-term behavior change,” Koemel said in an email.

However, that finding is far from conclusive, said Kevin McConway, professor emeritus of applied statistics at the Open University in Milton Keynes, United Kingdom, who was not involved in the study.

“A snag is that the paper uses complicated statistical methods that are not always described clearly,” McConway said in an email. “It’s therefore difficult to tell to what extent the findings have emerged from the researchers’ choice of statistical analyses, rather than things that are clearer from the data.”

A theoretical model

Using scientific modeling, Koemel and his team found combining as little as five additional minutes of sleep, two minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity (such as brisk walking or taking the stairs), and an additional ½ cup of vegetables a day might lengthen life by a year.

However, this predicted outcome was only for people who had an extremely poor diet, slept less than six hours per night and only exercised about seven minutes a day. In addition, it wasn’t until the model’s lifestyle improvements greatly increased that the results became scientifically significant.

“All of the gains reported in this study are theoretical,” Koemel said. “We cannot claim a direct causal effect from the lifestyle patterns. These findings should therefore be interpreted as expected or projected benefits under assumed behavioral variations, rather than confirmed effects of an intervention.”

The greatest gain in longevity — 9.35 years — and health span — 9.46 years — came with the combination of an addition of 42 to 103 minutes of exercise and sleeping between seven and eight hours a day, while also eating an extremely healthy diet that included fish, whole grains, vegetables and fruits.

Adding exercise to the mix moved the longevity needle the most — a fact that did not surprise preventive cardiologist Dr. Andrew Freeman, director of cardiovascular prevention and wellness at National Jewish Health in Denver.

“Exercise is the elixir of y

Trump appears to flip someone off at a Ford plant. The White House says it’s ‘appropriate.’

(CNN) — President Donald Trump appeared to flip someone off as he toured a Michigan Ford plant in an incident caught on video Tuesday, and the White House defended the action as an “appropriate” response to someone screaming at the commander-in-chief.

“A lunatic was wildly screaming expletives in a complete fit of rage, and the President gave an appropriate and unambiguous response,” White House Communications Director Steven Cheung said in a statement.

A 30-second video, obtained by TMZ, shows someone appearing to yell in the president’s direction, though it is unclear exactly what that person is saying. TMZ reported that person appeared to yell “pedophile protector” at the president.

The video then shows the president pointing to the factory floor a few times as he continues to walk through part of the factory. He then appears to flip off someone on the factory floor with his right hand.

A second video is then played showing what appears to be a more zoomed in shot of the same interaction. It also shows what TMZ suggests is a person yelling “pedophile protector” at the president while he is standing in one place.

In the TMZ video, the president appears to respond by pointing at the person and mouthing or saying “fuck you” twice.

CNN has reached out to Ford for comment on the incident.
