Jennifer Lawrence says she lost out on Tarantino role because she wasn’t pretty enough

(CNN) — Jennifer Lawrence may have starred in box office smashes such as “The Hunger Games” and the “X-Men” franchise, but she has missed out on at least one major movie role — and this, she says, is down to her looks.

The Oscar-winner claims she was not cast in Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 period drama “Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood” because people said she “wasn’t pretty enough.”

On the “Happy Sad Confused with Josh Horowitz” live podcast, released Monday, Lawrence discussed the list of filmmakers she wants to work with.

“Tarantino’s been chasing you. He wants you,” Horowitz said to Lawrence while pointing at her.

“I don’t know about that,” the actress responded.

“That’s true. No, he said that,” Horowitz insisted. “’Hateful Eight.’ The Jennifer Jason Leigh part was originally written for you, I believe.”

“I turned it down, which I should not have done,” Lawrence interjected, before they both laughed.

Tarantino told Entertainment Weekly in 2015 that he was a “huge Jennifer Lawrence fan” and had approached her about playing the fugitive Daisy Domergue in the 2015 mystery thriller “The Hateful Eight,” but Lawrence was too busy with “all this publicity on the ‘Hunger Games’ movies.”

“And I think ‘Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood,’ too, didn’t he want you?” asked Horowitz.

“Well, he did and then everybody was like, ‘She’s not pretty enough to play Sharon Tate,’ and then they didn’t,” Lawrence said.

After a sympathetic reaction from the crowd, she continued, “I know.”

Unconvinced, Horowitz said, “That’s not true.”

To which Lawrence responded, “I’m pretty sure it is true. Or it’s that thing where I’ve been telling this story this way for so long that I believe it. No, but I — I’m pretty sure that happened — or, he just never was considering me for the part and the internet just, like, went out of their way to call me ugly.”

Margot Robbie was cast to play Sharon Tate in the film, based on the real-life actress and model who was a victim of the 1969 Manson Murders.

Months ahead of the movie release, Tate’s sister, Debra, told TMZ that she would prefer Margot Robbie for the role over Lawrence because of Robbie’s “physical beauty, and the way she even carries herself is similar to that of Sharon,” adding that Lawrence is “not pretty enough to play Sharon. That’s a horrible thing to say but, you know, I have my standards.”

Rather than casting her as Sharon Tate, Tarantino said in 2021 on the “WTF with Marc Maron” podcast that he had “investigated the idea of Jennifer Lawrence playing Squeaky,” a follower of Charles Manson. He added that she went to his house and read a script but, in the end, “it didn’t work out, but she’s a very nice person and I respect her as an actress.” The role was played by Dakota Fanning.

Later on Horowitz’s podcast, Lawrence said, deadpan, that she auditioned for “Twilight” but “didn’t get that ‘cause I guess I was

911 transcripts and an incident report reveal where Renee Good was shot and how her community faced her killing in real time

(CNN) — After Renee Good was shot last week by a federal immigration officer in Minneapolis, the mother of three was “unresponsive, not breathing, with inconsistent, irregular, thready pulse activity,” an incident report from the city’s fire department says.

“I saw … an ICE officer fire two shots through her windshield into the driver,” a caller to 911 reported soon after the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent shot Good, according to scores of emergency call transcripts CNN also got from Minneapolis officials.

“She tried to drive away but crashed into the nearest vehicle that was parked,” the caller said. “I saw blood all over the driver, then the partner who was trying to provide assistance.”

Good, whose killing has spurred days of protests in Minneapolis and far beyond against the White House’s nationwide immigration enforcement crackdown, had blood on her face and torso when an emergency responder found her in the driver’s seat of her SUV minutes after the January 7 shooting, the incident report says.

The 37-year-old had two apparent gunshot wounds to her right chest, one apparent gunshot wound to her left forearm and a possible gunshot wound on the left side of her head, according to the report, which also says Good was found with no pulse and given chest compressions and other measures to try to resuscitate her.

President Donald Trump, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and other federal officials have accused Good of trying to use her vehicle to kill or harm ICE agents in what Noem has called an “act of domestic terrorism.”

Another call to 911 came from a man who said he was calling on behalf of federal Homeland Security officers on the scene, according to the transcripts.

“We had officers stuck in a vehicle and we had agitators on scene. And we have shots fired by our locals,” he said, requesting emergency services and local law enforcement. He did not have a description of the shooter and was getting his information from a local joint operation command center, he said.

“She’s f**kin’ dead. They f**kin’ shot her,” another caller told a 911 dispatcher, who assured help was on the way. “There’s 15 ICE agents, and they shot her, like, ’cause she wouldn’t open her car door.”

While Good was in her Honda Pilot, someone asked ICE officers if he could check her pulse, bystander video shows.

“No! Back up. Now!” an officer shouts.

“I’m a physician,” the man says, his hands in the air. “Can I go check a pulse?”

ICE officer: “No! Back up! Now!”

Doctor: “I’m a physician!”

ICE officer: “I don’t care!”

After an initial assessment, rescuers moved Good down the block “for a more workable scene, better access for ambulances, and separation from an escalating scene involving law enforcement and bystanders,” the incident report says.

Good then was taken into an ambulance to a hospital, where she died.

Pamela Anderson felt ‘yucky’ sitting close to ‘Pam & Tommy’ producer Seth Rogen at Golden Globes

By Lianne Kolirin, CNN

(CNN) — Pamela Anderson has said she felt “yucky” after being seated close to Seth Rogen at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday.

The former “Baywatch” star said she felt “pissed off” about Rogen’s involvement in “Pam & Tommy,” the scripted Hulu series about a “very terrible time” in her life.

Rogen was an executive producer on the eight-part show, which first aired in 2022. The show, in which he also stars, tells the story of the scandal surrounding the videotape that Anderson and her former husband Tommy Lee made on honeymoon and that was leaked without their permission.

Speaking to Andy Cohen on SiriusXM, Anderson said: “Seth Rogen, he did that (show) without talking to me — you know, ‘Pam & Tommy.’

“How can someone make a TV series out of the difficult times in your life? … Like, I’m a living, breathing human being over here, hello!”

She told Cohen she left after presenting an award at the Golden Globes and went home to bed instead of staying for the rest of the evening.

“He was in the pit at the Golden Globes, so we were close,” she said of Rogen, who in the series played Rand Gauthier, the workman who stole the sexually explicit video and leaked it for profit.

“I felt a little bit weird about it … I’ve been so busy working. I’ve done five movies in the last year. So, I’ve just been busy but sometimes it hits you and you feel kind of down.

“It just felt a little yucky,” she added. “Eventually, hopefully, he (Seth Rogen) will … Maybe he’ll reach out to me and apologize. Not that that matters.

Asked by Cohen how she responded to seeing Rogen at the Globes, Anderson replied: “I didn’t make a beeline for him but in my mind I did. I really told him how I felt.”

She said that she thought Rogen had “to have an inkling” of how she was feeling, then added: “Some of these things have been very lucrative for people so then I think that just goes out the window.”

She added: “I don’t dwell on it but it was kind of a strange thing to pick a very terrible time in my life and make entertainment… and you know… people were nominated for Emmys and all sorts of stuff.”

CNN has reached out to Seth Rogen’s representatives for comment.

“Pam & Tommy” earned 10 Emmy nominations upon its release, including for Rogen, Lily James who played Anderson and Sebastian Stan who played Lee. It won the award for “outstanding period and/or character makeup.”

In a documentary released on Netflix a year after the show aired, “Pamela, a Love Story,” Anderson revealed how devastating having her and Lee’s intimate moments go public was to her career and their marriage, which ended in 1998.
