(CNN) — Savannah Guthrie intends to return to work at NBC’s “Today” show at some point, according to two sources close to the network.

When that might happen is highly uncertain, and completely up to Guthrie, given this month’s agonizing and all-consuming search for her mother Nancy.

But word of Guthrie’s intentions may calm some of the speculation among viewers and TV news insiders about whether she will be back on “Today.”

For Guthrie, as hard as it might be to imagine resuming work, it might also be a comforting routine after the most unsettling chapter of her life.

When asked about Guthrie’s status, an NBC source said “her ‘Today’ family will welcome her back with open arms on her timeline.”

Guthrie, 54, is in many ways the centerpiece of NBC’s popular and highly profitable morning show. Her fame turned Nancy’s disappearance into a national news story nearly four weeks ago, and her video messages pleading for tips have captivated the country.

Earlier this week, for the first time, Guthrie acknowledged that her 84-year-old mother “may already be gone.”

“And if this is what is to be, then we will all accept it,” Guthrie said. “But we need to know where she is. We need her to come home.”

Guthrie announced a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to her mother’s recovery, and a donation of $500,000 to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Those statements by Guthrie were interpreted, by some people close to her, as a turning point.

“Living in this uncertainty is agonizing” for Guthrie and her siblings, Hoda Kotb said on NBC after playing the video.

Kotb, who departed the show in January 2025, returned to co-host “Today” due to Guthrie’s absence.

Kotb was going to be a part of the show’s Winter Olympics coverage in Milan anyway. But once Nancy Guthrie was reported missing and Savannah flew to Tucson to support the search, “Today” stayed home in New York, and Kotb returned to Studio 1A to fill in for her friend.

Washington (CNN) — The US military used a controversial anti-drone laser system to shoot down a unmanned aircraft operated by US Customs and Border Protection in Texas, according to congressional representatives.

“Our heads are exploding over the news that DoD reportedly shot down a Customs and Border Protection drone using a high risk counter-unmanned aircraft system,” three Democrats on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure said in a statement.

It’s not clear when the shoot-down happened. CNN has reached out to the Department of the Defense and CBP for more information.

As a result of the incident, the Federal Aviation Administration implemented a temporary flight restriction Thursday evening above the town of Fort Hancock, Texas, to “ensure safety.”

The small town is about 50 miles south of El Paso, Texas, along the Mexican border.

The top Democrat on the House committee Rick Larsen, along with Reps. André Carson and Bennie Thompson were notified of the shoot down Thursday through official channels, a congressional source tells CNN.

“We said MONTHS ago that the White House’s decision to sidestep a bipartisan, tri-committee bill to appropriately train C-UAS (counter unmanned aerial system) operators and address the lack of coordination between the Pentagon, DHS and the FAA was a short-sighted idea. Now, we’re seeing the result of its incompetence,” the statement said.

The shoot-down comes about two weeks after the use of a military laser system by CBP designed to disrupt drones near El Paso prompted the FAA to abruptly shut down a large swath of airspace up to 18,000 feet over the city for 10 days. The move effectively shut down El Paso airport, but was reversed after about eight hours.

Because of the location of the new restrictions implemented Thursday they are not expected to have any impact on commercial flights.

The top Democrat on the Senate Aviation Subcommittee, Tammy Duckworth called for an investigation into the “dysfunction” endangering the nation’s aviation system.

“The situation is alarming and demands a thorough, independent investigation,” the senator said in a statement. “I will be calling on the Inspectors General of the Departments of Defense, Transportation and Homeland Security to launch a joint investigation into the recent scandals in El Paso and now Fort Hancock.”

Mientras intenta mantener abiertas sus opciones respecto a Irán, el presidente Donald Trump puede estar viendo cómo se le estrechan.

Tras la tercera ronda de conversaciones en Ginebra, que terminó con un aparente acuerdo para otra reunión de “nivel técnico” en Viena la próxima semana, la Casa Blanca debe evaluar si su renovada diplomacia dará resultados, o si debe abrazar el paso tremendamente impredecible, y probablemente brutal, de la guerra.

Militarmente, las señales de EE.UU. son claras. Es probablemente el mayor despliegue de poder aéreo y naval en la región desde la invasión de Iraq en 2003. Algunos aviones cisterna y aviones de ataque terrestre A-10 están estacionados a la vista de los turistas que aterrizan en aeropuertos civiles de Israel y Creta. No es sutil y pretende asegurar que Teherán vea que Trump va en serio y que su limitada paciencia para un resultado negociado está respaldada con una fuerza sustancial. (CNN) — While the Trump administration has shown no hesitation to bash Canada – especially after the US men’s Olympic hockey team won gold in overtime – one of the players took issue with a recent AI-generated TikTok posted by the White House that made it sound like he was trash-talking Canadians.

“They booed our national anthem, so I had to come out and teach those maple-syrup-eating-f**ks a lesson,” Team USA’s Brady Tkachuk appears to say in the video posted on the White House TikTok earlier this week. A disclaimer at the bottom of the video notes that it “contains AI-generated media,” with the clip appearing to modify footage from one of Tkachuk’s press conferences.

While Tkachuk won gold on the US men’s Olympic hockey team – beating Canada 2-1 – he plays professionally on a Canadian-based National Hockey League team, as captain of the Ottawa Senators.

But whatever animosity the White House directed toward Canada was not shared by the player himself, who told reporters on Thursday that he did not condone the video.

“It’s clearly fake, because it’s not my voice and not my lips moving,” Tkachuk said. “I’m not in control of any of those accounts and, uh, yeah so, I know that those words would never come out of my mouth, so can’t do anything about it.”

Pressed, if he liked the video, Tkachuk said, “I would never say that. That’s not who I am, so yeah, I guess I don’t like that video.”

“If you watch the video, that’s not my voice and something that I never say, and I don’t really know how that, kind of, took a storm on its own when I play here and give everything I have here,” Tkachuk said. “That’s something that – never a thought would happen in my head, and especially would never say it.”

“I would never say anything like that,” he added.

Four other players on the US men’s Olympic hockey team also play for Canada-based teams.

CNN has reached to the White House for comment on Tkachuk’s remarks and the video itself.

Commenting on Trump’s prior taunts to make Canada the 51st US state, Tkachuk told reporters, “I know I don’t want that, because I still want to play in the best-on-best tournaments.”

The TikTok is just the latest example of the White House mocking Canada as it promotes Team USA’s win and subsequent visit to Washington on social media.

On Monday, Trump posted an AI-generated video of himself playing hockey in a suit and red tie, throwing one Canadian player down on the ice and beating up another. Below the video was an old social media post from former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, whom Trump often referred to as “Governor,” which said, “You can’t take our country – and you can’t take our game.”

The video ends with the AI-generated USA players hugging him.

Trump’s comments about the US women’s Olympic hockey team, which also won gold against Canada in the Olympics, also sparked controversy this week.

La Copa Mundial de Clavados que estaba programada a disputarse del 5 al 8 de marzo de 2026 en Zapopan, Jalisco, quedó cancelada luego de que diversas embajadas internacionales emitieran restricciones de viaje hacia México en medio del contexto de violencia que atraviesa el estado.

La decisión fue anunciada por World Aquatics tras una evaluación, de acuerdo al comunicado que emitieron, conjunta con Aquatics México, la Federación Mexicana de Clavados y Clavados de Altura y el Consejo Estatal para el Fomento Deportivo (Code) Jalisco.

El organismo rector de los deportes acuáticos explicó que las advertencias y limitaciones de viaje impidieron que varios países autorizaran la participación de sus selecciones nacionales. Ante este escenario, la prioridad fue garantizar la seguridad y la plena participación de los atletas, un principio que, señalaron, está por encima de cualquier otro interés deportivo.

La noticia cayó como un balde de agua fría para la organización mexicana, que había trabajado durante meses en la preparación del evento. Sin embargo, World Aquatics agradeció públicamente el esfuerzo y la colaboración de las autoridades locales, dejando abierta la puerta para que Zapopan pueda albergar esta competencia en una futura fecha.

En lo deportivo, la cancelación también tiene efectos directos. La clasificación a la superfinal de la Copa Mundial, programada del 1 al 3 de mayo en Beijing, se definirá únicamente con base en los resultados obtenidos en la etapa de Montreal. Esto modifica el panorama para los clavadistas que esperaban sumar puntos en territorio mexicano rumbo a la definición en China.

Desde la Comisión Nacional de Cultura Física y Deporte (Conade), su titular, Rommel Pacheco, aseguró que México no fue responsable de la determinación final y que continúan las negociaciones para mantener la competencia en el país.

A través de un mensaje en redes sociales, el dirigente afirmó que se trabaja intensamente para que Jalisco conserve la sede, aunque también se analizan alternativas en otras entidades, como Ciudad de México, Veracruz y Yucatán, con el objetivo de que los clavadistas mexicanos puedan competir en casa.

Por su parte, el gobernador de Jalisco, Pablo Lemus, sostuvo que la cancelación no debe interpretarse como definitiva, sino como un diferimiento. Explicó que se realizan gestiones junto con Conade, el Code y la Secretaría de Gobernación para intentar reprogramar el evento, ya sea en fechas cercanas o en otro mes del calendario.

Entre la incertidumbre y la negociación, la Copa Mundial de Clavados en México entra en pausa mientras autoridades deportivas y gubernamentales buscan una salida que permita que este evento vuelva a tener como escenario el trampolín jalisciense.
