El desplome en el mercado de bonos se agudiza a medida que los temores inflacionarios se apoderan del mercado del Tesoro, amenazando con elevar los costos de endeudamiento en toda la economía estadounidense.

El rendimiento de los bonos del Tesoro estadounidense a 30 años alcanzó el 5,2 %, su nivel más alto desde 2007, impulsado por la preocupación ante el continuo aumento de precios debido a la guerra con Irán. (CNN) — Far-right Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said on Tuesday that the International Criminal Court’s prosecutor is seeking a warrant for his arrest in what he called “a declaration of war.”

In a speech delivered from his office in Jerusalem, Smotrich did not say why the court is seeking a warrant, but he suggested it’s because of the massive expansion of Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank that he has pushed.

In April, Israel secretly approved more than 30 new settler outposts and farms as part of a broader push to entrench Israel’s grip on the territory and eliminate the possibility of a Palestinian state.

In a statement to CNN, the ICC said it cannot comment and that applications for arrest warrants are classified or under seal. The process begins with a prosecutor requesting an arrest warrant, a step that can take place confidentially before judges decide whether to issue it.

In his address, Smotrich called the expansion of settlements a “revolution” in what he referred to as Judea and Samaria, using the biblical term for the West Bank. He said that during the current government’s tenure, Israel had approved more than 100 new settlements. He has repeatedly celebrated the approval of new settlements as a step toward imposing Israeli sovereignty in the West Bank and openly said his goal is to prevent any possibility of a Palestinian state.

“We are planning, building, paving, regulating, and making the pioneering settlement enterprise irreversible,” Smotrich boasted. He said that Israel would “immediately” evacuate the Bedouin community of Khan al-Ahmar, located east of Jerusalem, in response to the ICC’s prosecutor’s request for a warrant. The small community has long been a target of Israel’s right-wing. Without offering any proof, Smotrich said that “according to all indications” the Palestinian Authority, which governs parts of the West Bank, is to be blamed for the ICC’s moves. CNN has reached out to the Palestinian Authority for comment.

An Israeli official told CNN that Israel believes the ICC may also be seeking arrest warrants for Defense Minister Israel Katz and far-right Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir. In a statement, Ben Gvir said he is “neither afraid nor deterred.”

Israel captured the West Bank from Jordan in the 1967 war and subsequently began establishing Jewish settlements there, which are considered illegal under international law, by the United Nations and by much of the international community. The UN also regards the West Bank and East Jerusalem as occupied territory, which the Palestinians seek for a future state.

In November 2024, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity. Netanyahu called the arrest warrants “absurd and antisemitic.”

At the time, the court also issued an arrest warrant for Hamas’ military leader, Mohamed Deif, who had been killed in an airstrike several months earlier.

New York (CNN) — A bond rout is deepening as inflation fears take hold of the Treasury market, threatening to raise borrowing costs across the US economy.

The 30-year US Treasury yield just hit 5.2%, its highest level since 2007, rising on worries about persistent price hikes because of the Iran war. Unsustainable government finances and interest rate hike fears have also sent investors pouring out of Treasury bonds. Yields rise when bond prices fall.

The war with Iran has ignited a global energy shock, with oil and gas prices at their highest levels in four years while the critical Strait of Hormuz remains effectively closed. That has started to seep out into other parts of the economy, including food prices and airfares.

The benchmark 10-year yield, which influences mortgage rates, surged to 4.67%, its highest level in over a year.

The United States isn’t alone – investors have been selling off bonds around the world as angst about government spending and persistent deficits continues to linger. The 30-year UK gilt yield hit its highest level since 1998. Japan’s 30-year bond yield hit its highest level on record.

The surge in borrowing costs is exacerbating concerns about global market volatility. Higher yields can pose a headwind for stocks as higher interest rates shift calculations for stocks’ value and higher bond yields can also pull investors away from stocks.

“The forces driving the sell-off – fiscal deterioration, defense spending, sticky inflation, central bank paralysis – are not resolving in the next week. They are getting worse,” Ajay Rajadhyaksha, global chairman of research at Barclays, said in a note.

It’s been 80 days since the war with Iran began. The stock market tumbled before reclaiming record highs. In the bond market, there hasn’t been the same recovery, and the situation is getting worse.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) - In anticipation of the I Madonnari Festival at the Old Mission Memorial Day weekend, a special creation is now on the asphalt in downtown Santa Barbara.

Artist Matt Rodriquez worked on it for three days in front of the Museum of Art.

It is a colorful image of the festival title I Madonnari.

Rodriguez said "we're bringing life back to Santa Barbara and the Arts District. Definitely next weekend we're all going to be gathering to celebrate this really beautiful and ephemeral art form."

Rodriguez has been featured in many areas of Santa Barbara. "I do large scale murals, acrylics, oils, canvas. I'll paint on any material."

For this and other work he has pieces with "lots of color, lots of, boldness." That includes on Pianos on State Street in the fall and many community art projects here in town."

 For the work in the Arts District on State St. at Anapamu St. he just came up with, an "original design. And it's also coming out as I meet people from the community and it's free form."

Looking at the project he said, "you can see all of the beach here and waterfront and city and mountains. Yeah, good day to be up painting. "

The event is a benefit for the Children's Creative Project that engages 80,000 Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo County students at 100 schools with the arts.

The Arts District in downtown supports art and its benefit to the economy through cultural events, community outreach and event marketing. It includes locations such as the Granada Theatre, the Arlington Theatre and the New Vic Theatre. It has several galleries and restaurants featuring local artists on the wall.

Este martes se vivirá uno de los días de elecciones primarias más movidos del calendario electoral de 2026, con seis estados celebrando contiendas para definir candidaturas.

La trama secundaria más importante será la cada vez más exitosa gira de venganza del presidente Donald Trump contra sus antagonistas republicanos. Pero hay muchas otras cosas que observar.

Ha sido un mes de grandes revanchas para Trump. Primero, su maquinaria política destituyó a cinco senadores estatales republicanos de Indiana que habían votado en contra de un intento de eliminar dos escaños en manos demócratas en la Cámara de Representantes de Estados Unidos.
