(CNN) — The House Oversight Committee released videos Tuesday of closed-door depositions with two men in Jeffrey Epstein’s inner circle as part of its probe into the late convicted sex offender.

Darren Indyke, a longtime Epstein employee and attorney, and Richard Kahn, Epstein’s longtime accountant, appeared before the committee earlier this month to answer questions from both Democrats and Republicans about their long relationships with Epstein and how the disgraced financier made and spent his money. Both denied prior knowledge of Epstein’s crimes and currently serve as co-executors of Epstein’s estate.

Neither had been formally questioned by federal law enforcement about their working relationships with Epstein before their depositions with the House Oversight Committee earlier this month.

Here are the takeaways from their appearances on Capitol Hill.

Both claimed not to know anything about Epstein’s crimes

Kahn and Indyke each stated that they were unaware of Epstein’s crimes, despite having worked for Epstein for decades and being intimately involved in Epstein’s business dealings and finances. Both men said if they had known about Epstein’s trafficking of women and girls while working for him, they would have cut ties with him immediately.

“Let me be clear: I had no knowledge whatsoever of Jeffrey Epstein’s wrongdoings,” said Indyke, who began working for Epstein in 1996. “My complete lack of involvement in that misconduct is a matter of record. Not a single woman has ever accused me of committing sexual abuse or witnessing sexual abuse, or claimed at any time that she or anyone else reported to me any allegation of Mr. Epstein’s abuse.”

“There was nothing that I saw that would lead me to believe he was engaging in misconduct,” Indyke added later in the deposition.

Indyke said he only spoke with Epstein about “legal advice” on his business matters like acquisitions, real estate and investments, and that he never spoke with Epstein about “social relationships.”

Indyke also said he was aware that Epstein had sex with “underage people” in Florida but that his understanding was that it was “limited to Florida” and Epstein told him he “wasn’t going to be in that position again. He was by all counts a very smart man.”

Indyke said he spoke with Epstein in the couple of days before his death in prison, but he would not disclose what they spoke about, saying the discussion was “privileged” and “not personal,” adding that it was “based upon his being in jail at the time, and it was regarding subjects that one would talk about like bail and things like that.”

Kahn began working for Epstein in 2005 as his accountant. He testified that he only saw Epstein approximately every three weeks: “We did not interact socially, and I never attended any of his parties of his social functions. While Epstein was alive, I never observed any sexual abuse or trafficking of women and never received a complaint – either by one of Epstein’s victims or anyone else – of such abuse or trafficking.”

Kahn recalled speaking with Epstein when Epstein was first charged with a sex crime in the mid-2000s and said Epstein reassured him at the time.

“Going back to when I originally spoke to Epstein when he first was being charged with soliciting a minor for prostitution, he told me that this was a mistake and it would never happen again that he would be with a minor,” Kahn testified. “I never saw minors around Epstein, so I was never suspicious that Epstein was with minors.”

What we know on Day 26 of the US and Israel’s war with Iran

(CNN) — US President Donald Trump expressed optimism on Tuesday that a deal with Tehran is in sight, and said that Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and others were leading negotiations.

An Iranian source told CNN there had been “outreach” between Washington and Tehran. Though Iranian representatives have let the Trump administration know it does not want to re-enter negotiations with special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, according to two regional sources, who said Tehran would prefer to engage with the vice president.

The chatter around negotiations to end the war comes as around 1,000 US soldiers with the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division are expecting to deploy in coming days to the Middle East, sources told CNN, and as countries take further measures to alleviate the impact of rising energy costs.

Here’s what to know on Day 26.

What are the main headlines?

  • US-Iran negotiations: An Iranian source told CNN that Tehran is willing to listen to “sustainable” proposals to end the war. For now, a meeting between the US and Iran in Islamabad later this week remains a possibility — but even those advocating it are skeptical that it will actually happen, sources said.
  • A mystery “present”? Trump alluded to an “oil and gas related” goodwill gesture from the Iranians that he suggested would aid diplomatic efforts to end the war. He said it was “related to the flow” through the Strait of Hormuz, the critical oil thoroughfare that’s been effectively shut down. Earlier, Iran’s Foreign Ministry firmly denied any dialogue between Tehran and Washington, according to state-affiliated media.
  • “Economic terrorism”: Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared a state of national energy emergency Tuesday, warning that there was an “imminent danger” to the “availability and stability of the country’s energy supply.” South Korea could limit the export of domestically produced naphtha, an essential material for petrochemical products, over supply concerns, an official said. Meanwhile, the effective closure of the strait is “economic terrorism against every nation,” said Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, CEO of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company.
  • Israel expands mobilization: Israel is set to approve a major increase in the number of reserve soldiers it can mobilize – setting a new limit of 400,000, up from 280,000. Defense Minister Israel Katz said the military will continue to operate in Lebanon against Hezbollah, with a specific focus on controlling the Litani River and its remaining bridges. Democrat Emily Gregory will flip deep-red Florida House district that includes Mar-a-Lago, CNN projects

(CNN) — Democrat Emily Gregory will win a special state House election in a Palm Beach district that includes President Donald Trump’s Florida home of Mar-a-Lago, CNN’s Decision Desk projects, adding another special election win to a recent string of victories around the country for Democrats.

Tuesday’s election was a prime opportunity for Democrats in the ruby-red Sunshine State to notch a win in a state where the party is often short of them, in a district with political resonance.

Gregory, a business owner and military spouse running for office for the first time, will defeat Republican Jon Maples, a former council-member of nearby Lake Shores who first received Trump’s “Complete and Total Endorsement” in January. She was leading Maples by just under 800 votes.

“When we started this, nobody thought it was possible. They thought we were crazy,” Gregory said to her supporters at her election night party. “I knew my community. I knew we deserved better. We deserve a leader who will fight for us.”

Mar-a-Lago will now be represented by a trio of Democrats across the Florida state House, Senate and US House, though Republicans have overall control of all three. State House District 87 has been vacant since August of last year, when former Republican state Rep. Mike Caruso, who won reelection in 2024 by 19 percentage points, left the seat to become the Palm Beach County clerk and comptroller. Trump won the district by 11 points during the 2024 presidential election.

In an interview with CNN’s Erin Burnett just after polls closed, Gregory said Trump was not a factor when it came to her campaign, saying she focused on Maples and “issues that matter most to Florida families.”

“Everyone is feeling that affordability crisis and the last thing that Florida families needed when they’re struggling is $4 gas,” Gregory said.

She added that although Trump’s presence in the district was not a part of her campaign, she would welcome the chance to speak to Trump.

“I would be happy to have a conversation. And you know, all 180,000 residents of District 87 are my priority if I’m so lucky to serve,” Gregory said. “I will put them all with equal weight.”

Some voters in Palm Beach on Tuesday who voted for Maples didn’t know about Trump’s endorsement. To some, it made little difference, but one Republican voter, Michelle Hall, told CNN that Trump’s endorsement was “fabulous.”

“Anything Donald does, I do,” Hall said.

It also came as a surprise to some voters that Trump voted by mail in Tuesday’s special election even as he has decried mail-in voting and sought to sharply limit it with the Republican-backed SAVE America Act, which would end the widespread practice of no-excuse mail-in voting.

“Are you kidding me? I had no idea,” Hall said in response a question about i

Federal prosecutors to get classified House documents in Brennan probe as decision on charges against former CIA chief nears

By Hannah Rabinowitz, CNN

(CNN) — The House Intelligence Committee voted Tuesday to give federal prosecutors classified records related to John Brennan, according to a committee spokesperson, signaling the Justice Department’s investigation into the former CIA director may be heading towards possible charges.

The committee held the vote behind closed doors, a source said, and the records will not be made public.

The vote came after the Justice Department requested the documents from the committee.

Federal prosecutors have for months worked to build a case against Brennan over allegations that he lied to Congress about a years-ago intelligence assessment on Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

One of the records the committee will turn over is a transcript of an interview with Brennan, the source said.

An attorney for Brennan declined to comment, and he has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.

The DOJ’s request for Intelligence Committee records was first reported by Punchbowl News.

Earlier this month, federal prosecutors in Miami issued a subpoena to former FBI Director James Comey seeking years of records related to the intelligence community assessment of Russian meddling, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter.

Both the Comey subpoena and DOJ’s request for records from Congress are key steps that prosecutors would need to take before deciding whether or not to bring charges.

Brennan’s lawyers have been bracing for a possible indictment for months.

Career prosecutors in Miami have signaled to Justice Department officials they don’t believe the case against Brennan is a strong one, CNN previously reported, but have continued to work toward possibly bringing it in DC federal court.

Brennan told House investigators in 2017 that Russia “brazenly interfered” in US elections, including actively contacting members of Trump’s campaign. However, he stopped shy of dubbing it “collusion.”

The investigation into Russian election interference ultimately did not find that Trump’s campaign or associates conspired with Russia or that Trump committed a crime. But the investigation also did not exonerate the president on obstruction of justice.

Through a mix of presidential powers including executive orders and federal investigations, Trump has sought retribution on a number of fronts, targeting those involved in the multiple legal cases against him, including his indictments for hoarding classified documents and attempting to overturn the 2020 election, as well as the probe into the 2016 election.
